Best U.S. Cities for Shopping Vacations

Joyce Carole
Are you interested in adding some "retail therapy" to your next vacation? You may want to head to one of these four U.S. cities that are well known for incredible shopping opportunities. Here is a list of the four best U.S. cities for shopping.

New York City, New York - The Big Apple is the Ultimate Shopping Destination

From the chic designer boutiques, that line New York's Madison and Fifth Avenues to the boho shops found in Tribeca and Soho, New York City wins hands down for the most shopping opportunities. Must see stores include the incredible landmark department stores located in the Upper East Side. Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys may be out of the league of many shoppers, but browsing through the luxurious fashions is a must. New York City's landmark Macy's department store is better on the budget. Those looking for a special something for the little ones should head to FAO Schwartz. Book lovers will not want to miss New York City's famous Strand bookstore, one of the largest bookstores in the world has a large collection of rare editions as well as the latest bestsellers. Fashionistas should check out the trendy Intermix boutique for the latest fashion essentials.

Chicago's Magnificent Mile - A Shoppers Dream

Next to New York City, Chicago is my favorite destination (in the US) for a shopping vacation. Chicago's famed Magnificent Mile is shopping paradise. This stretch of North Michigan Avenue, which runs from Oak Street to the Chicago River, is home to the top-rated Nordstrom's Department store and a slew of chic designer boutiques. Must see stops include The American Girl Place, Nike Town, Louis Vuitton and my personal favorite La Perla for splurge worthy high-end lingerie.

Minneapolis, Minnesota - "The Mall of America"American Made Shopping Vacation

I hate to admit it but I have not yet ventured to Minneapolis's "Mall of America". The Mall of America is high on my list of shopping destinations I need to visit. From "Janie and Jack" to "Jessica McClintock" there is something for everyone. The Mall of America is comprised of 400 stores centering around a huge play area aptly named "Nickelodeon Universe". The Mall of America is American shopping.

Los Angeles, California - Rodeo Drive's Chic Fashions and Sky High Prices Attract More Than Celebrities

Looking for that perfect spot for a shopping vacation with the girls, skip New York City and head toLos Angeles where low key attitudes, avant-garde fashions and gorgeous weather combine for a top-notch shopping experience. Los Angeles is so much more than famed Rodeo Drive (which is a must-see). For a fun California shopping vacation head to Third Street between La Cinega Blvd. and La Brea Ave. Here you will find a slew of hip boutiques and antique stores.

The United States has many cities with great shopping. These four US cities are perfect destinations for shopping vacations. So call your girlfriends and head to one of these great shopping destinations for a vacation chock full of retail therapy.

Great choices -- the MOA is very popular, fun, and has some great shops. And if you have never been to an Ikea there is 1 across the street from the MOA.

I'm from Chicago and been to all these, they're great! Try also Las Vegas and Boston's Newbury Street.

New York is my favorite, but I really, really don't like to shop.

You know, Joyce, I know this will sound weird, but I find shopping stressful! We live very close to the Woodbury Commons and folks fly over from Europe to shop there and I haven't been there in years! It's only 15 minutes away! Cheers, good article but I'd rather be at the beach!
