With our first anniversary coming up my husband and I went about deciding how we would celebrate this important event. After much brainstorming we decided a romantic overnight stay somewhere nearby would be perfect, but where would we go? We decided we wanted to stay somewhere with a bed and breakfast feel that was a little more personable and homey than staying at a hotel. In our search for the perfect place to stay we stumbled across a Utah gem, the Blue Boar Inn.

The Blue Boar Inn is located in Midway, Utah, a town with Swiss heritage. It is only a short drive away from Park City, Utah and other beautiful mountain locations offering a variety of activities.

Upon arrival at the Blue Boar Inn you will notice its own Swiss inspired look. At the entrance you will be greeted by a valet who will get your bags from your vehicle and then park your car for you. Another inn employee then comes and takes your bags and shows you to your room. Each room of the Blue Boar Inn has a large wood door and a key lock.

The Blue Boar Inn features 12 guestrooms, each of which is named after a different literary figure and themed appropriately to go along with their namesake. These room names include such people as Rudyard Kipling, William Shakespeare and Charlotte Bronte. My husband and I stayed in the Robert Frost room, which was decorated with an outdoorsy, nature feel. The rooms range in price from about $175 to $295 a night, depending on the room size.

Upon entering your room you are greeted with a cheese and fruit tray and bottled water. You can unpack at your own pace and enjoy the quiet and comfort of the location. Because of the small number of rooms, the inn is very quiet and restful. You do not have to worry about people running back and forth outside of your room.

Another nice feature of the Blue Boar Inn is the jetted tub that can be found in each bathroom. The bathrooms also have a separate shower.

After unpacking and settling in, make sure you visit the inn restaurant. The menu is small, but features delicious choices such as veal chop, some seafood selections, or a center cut beef tenderloin (my favorite). Dessert is also wonderful. The price of dinner is not included in your room.

After dinner, take the time to wander the beautiful grounds of the inn. In the rear of the property are a beautiful stone patio area, and some walkways that take you through an herb garden, and a flower garden. Another small path takes you to a romantic gazebo. My husband and I went to the inn during the month of June and the flowers were all in bloom and the grass was bright green and neatly trimmed.

Once you have explored and taken in the beauty of the grounds, there are many activities available inside. The inn has a small library of books and movies, which can be used by the guests. There is also a nice chess set that has been set out for guests. Each room also has a VCR and satellite television. Cookies or other goodies are set up in the main lobby for guests to snack on. During our stay they had set out delicious lemon cookies.

After enjoying a restful nights sleep in one of the inns comfortable beds you get to enjoy a complimentary breakfast. The breakfast includes a small buffet with pastries, yogurt, and some meat and cheeses, and an entrée selection off of their menu. I chose the Cinnamon Swirl Brioche French Toast. My husband chose the Irish steel cut oatmeal. Both dishes were delicious. I wished we could stay another night just so I could eat breakfast there again.

Before checking out make sure you ask for a complimentary pass to the Homestead resort just down the road. During our stay we were given this pass, which allowed us access to the Homestead's pool area.

If you are looking for a quiet, romantic getaway, away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, the Blue Boar Inn is for you. Once you go, you will never want to leave.
