Flight to Grand Canyon
For those who want to get the best of both worlds, how about a flight to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead all in one? You can book your seat for less than $120 currently. Of course, be sure to bring an additional $20 per passenger the day of the flight for a fuel surcharge.
The flight covers three of the most wondrous sights in all of the western United States. And with free pickup at Las Vegas area hotels, you will have to do nothing but walk out the door. The trip takes approximately 5.5 hours. For those who want a little extra, a combination airplane, helicopter and riverboat tour is also available. That trip takes approximately 7.5 hours.
Sunset Horseback Riding
It may be cliché, but remember those old western movies where the cowboy went riding off into the desert sunset? Here is your chance to do your best John Wayne impersonation with a sunset ride that includes dinner.
Allow five hours for the ride, which includes 1.5 hours of actual time on horseback. Dinner is BBQ. The cost is approximately $140 (but the up side is there is no fuel surcharge).
For those who want a lunch ride, breakfast ride, or a ride without meal, those are all available with prices starting at approximately $100.
Rafting
For those who are especially adventurous, white water rafting on the Colorado River is available, complete with a trip up the walls of the Grand Canyon in a jet-powered helicopter. This trip includes an actual 5.5 hours of time on the water.
However, make sure you have plenty of time and money as this day trip takes a lot of both. Total trip duration is approximately 15 hours and costs nearly $500. But compared to all the money you have likely dropped at the casinos, it may be the best deal out there.
Land Sailing
Most are familiar with wind surfing, where thrill seekers take off with a surfboard and sail across the ocean waves. But less well known is its sandy equivalent, land surfing.
Sitting in a cart with wheels and a sale soaring above the vehicle, you can glide across the desert with nothing but wind power near the infamous Area 51. This trip lasts approximately eight hours, including transportation to the site. The $199 price tag includes lunch and beverages - and an excellent guide fully trained in first aid! Not that you'll need it.
Gold Mine Tour
Have you ever seriously wondered what it might be like to be a prospector in the Wild West? What kinds of conditions did they put up with? What kind of sights did they see? Those who take this tour will find out.
Touring the Techaticcup Mine in Eldorado Canyon, this trip gives the visitor a chance to experience what being in an old west town was really like. In addition to the town, visitors also have the opportunity to explore three mineshafts. Lunch is included in a covered pavilion. The trip lasts a little more than 5 hours and the cost is $148.99.
