When you think of having a barbecue, many foods come to mind. You may consider having barbecued chicken. Mm, that sounds tasty. Or, you may wish to have barbecued pork sandwiches. Perhaps you're even dreaming of barbecued ribs. Well, this is what comes to mind if you're a carnivore. In other words, if you eat meat, surely your barbecue food list includes meat. But if you're a vegetarian, the barbecue food list is going to be completely different in your mind. If you go to a barbecue, you'll most likely find the kinds of foods that are listed above, all meats. You'll rarely see barbecued vegetables, for instance. Why is this? The biggest reason is due to demand. When most people go to a barbecue, they want some kind of barbecued meat. Tradition is a second reason. Everyone has always been barbecuing meat, so why do something different? The third reason is lack of knowledge. Many people don't know any recipes for vegetarian barbecuing. This article is going to solve that problem for you, and give you five great vegetarian barbecue recipes.

1. My favorite vegetarian barbecued food is asparagus. If you're on a budget, asparagus may not fit into it well, because generally asparagus will cost more per pound than other green vegetables that you could serve. If you can afford it, barbecued asparagus is a tasty side dish for a vegetarian barbecue. There really isn't much to the recipe, and anyone can make it. All you do is rinse off the asparagus, and then put it into a dish, without cutting it up. Pour olive oil lightly over the asparagus and then sprinkle on some sea salt. Once you have done this, place the asparagus directly onto the grill, and let it cook. Let the asparagus cook until it softens and no longer tastes crunchy. Turn it over so that it doesn't get too well done on one side. The barbecue flavor of the open flame gives the asparagus an incredible taste.

2. Now, you need some bread. Barbecued bread sounds interesting, hm? Use Italian bread. Butter the bread and put on some Italian seasoning. Then, add a hint of garlic powder. Now, place the bread on the grill on a piece of foil. It takes a very short time to cook the bread until it becomes toasty. This gives you a great seasoned barbecue bread. Optionally, you can try to place the bread directly onto the grill, but only leave it on for a few seconds. The thicker the bread, the better this option will work.

3. Barbecued pineapple slices. Get a whole fresh pineapple. Cut off the outside of the pineapple, and then cut the pineapple into thick slices. Place the pineapple directly onto the grill and let it barbecue. As with the bread, this side dish will not take long to prepare. Once the pineapple has grill marks on it, it is finished. You can cook it a bit longer if you like, but use some foil underneath so that the pineapple doesn't burn.

4. Barbecued vegetable medley. Who really needs meat when you've got all kinds of vegetables barbecuing on the grill? Choose your vegetables. Use red and green bell peppers, onions, broccoli, carrots, and any other vegetables you like. Cut up the vegetables. Season them with whatever seasoning you like, such as some salt and pepper and butter. You don't have to use any seasoning if you want just the pure barbecued vegetables. Place them on a sheet of foil. Then, put them on the grill and let them cook. If you want, you can enclose the vegetables entirely inside the foil to cook them. You will get less of a barbecue flavor this way, but you will retain the moisture in the vegetables so they don't dry out.

5. Vegetarian pizza bread. Take some thick bread that you can buy at the grocery store and cut it into thick slices. You want to use baguette bread, or a loaf type of bread. Season the bread with a touch of butter and Italian seasoning. Then, let it grill for a few seconds on foil on the grill. Then, add some marinara sauce and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top. Place this on the grill enclosed in foil. In a minute, you've got some great pizza bread barbecued on the grill. You can additionally add some of the vegetables from above and cook them on top of the pizza as well. You may want to cook the vegetables some first, since the bread and cheese won't take long to finish barbecuing and the vegetables will need some time.

Put all of this together, and you've got a great vegetarian barbecue meal!
