Best Video Games for Kids this Holiday Season

If your child has a game console and you're thinking about buying him a game for Christmas, check out the following suggestions. There is something for kids of all ages.

Guitar Hero 5

Platform: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2

Rating: Teen

Description: Play along to classic and current rock songs, including Johnny Cash and The White Stripes. You'll need at least a Guitar Hero guitar controller to play. You can also buy the drums and microphone to use with the game.

Who will like it: Most teenagers. Some of the songs may be inappropriate for tweens, but as long as you supervise, they should be fine to play.

Dirt 2

Platform: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii

Rating: Teen

Description: This game lets you participate in off-road racing.

Who will like it: Teens who like racing games.

Punchout

Platform: Wii

Rating: Everyone 10+

Description: You get to step into the ring and take on other boxers using the Wii Nunchuk controller.

Who will like it: Tween and teen boys and girls who like boxing or being active. Parents who remember playing Punch-Out when it was on the old NES system will also enjoy this game.

MySims Agents

Platform: Wii

Rating: Everyone

Description: Solve mysteries and save your city as a MySims Agent.

Who will like it: Kids who likes to solve a good puzzle or mystery or wants a chance to take on the bad guys.

Lego Star Wars

Platform: Xbox 360, Wii, PS2

Rating: Everyone

Description: Play through all six Star Wars movies.

Who will like it: Most young kids will enjoy the movie because of the Lego characters. Also, anyone who enjoyed the Star Wars movies, young or old, will have fun with this game.

Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise

Platform: Xbox 360

Rating: Everyone

Description: Build and keep up piñata gardens while going up against an evil professor.

Who will like it: Younger children.

SingStar Vol. 2

Platform: PS3

Rating: Teen

Description: Sing to 30 different tracks. You will need a PS3 compatible microphone to play this game.

Who will like it: Tween and teen girls, but if kids younger than 13 are playing, parents should supervise as some of the lyrical content may be too mature.

Go Diego Go: Safari Rescue

Platform: Wii, PS2

Rating: Everyone

Description: Join Diego and friends as they rescue elephants from being turned into rocks by a magician.

Who will like it: Young children, especially fans of the show. Don't be afraid to let toddlers try the game, as it will promote hand-eye coordination.

    They are already up to 5 Guitar Hero-love playing that game when I get a chance...Safari Rescue might just be a nice diversion though
