Collecting vintage action figures are becoming more and more of popular trend among young collectors nowadays. With Nickelodeon's purchase of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, vintage toys based on the original 1987 animated series have been popping up all over stores. On top that, beginning in 2010, the elusive Movie Star Turtles will also be making their way back to toys stores as well. As of now, they are the only other vintage set of Ninja Turtles toys being reissued by Playmates. There is also a potential chance that Playmates may re-release the Storage Shell Turtles. They were originally released in 1991 along with Movie Star Turtles coincidentally. They can only be bought at online stores, but you have a decent shot at winning them at a very low price on eBay at less than ten dollars. Online stores tend to sell that at around thirty bucks a pop which is very expensive for one measly toy.

The Storage Shell Turtles were one of the best lines Ninja Turtles action figures ever. They had superb head molds that were much better than the original 1988 line and came with colored belts. Each turtle had their own facial expression along with a wide variety of weapons. I believed that Donatello came with a slingshot and Leonardo had a turtle grappling hook. These toys allowed you to store as many weapons as you can by snapping their shells open. Donatello was my personal favorite as a child because his purple belt matched nicely very with his bandana. I remember the back of his shell had a sheath for his wooden staff because the belts were very durable and never broke off.

If Playmates does decide to reissue this set within a few months, the waiting time is worth it because they might cost up to six dollars at you local toy store. For more information, be sure to check out the most recent issue of Toyfare magazine. All in all, I highly recommend parents to find these gifts for their children during the holidays because they really have a high entertainment value to them unlike many action figures that are manufactured today. On a scale of 1-10, I give this funky set of vintage turtles a 9.95 (Turtle movie reference). Information regarding these toys was found at the official website of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (ninjaturtles.com).
