There are many things in nature that are jaw dropping and awe inspiring, and a waterfall is definitely one of them. If you are looking for ways to add some more excitement to your usual hiking trip, then you should consider waterfall hiking. Even though there are no waterfalls in the Greensboro area, the beautiful state of North Carolina has over 250 cascades within a short radius of each other. This article will act as a guide to help you find some of the most spectacular waterfalls near the Greensboro area.
Transylvania County
Due to the unique landscape and geography of North Carolina, the vast majority of the waterfalls are located in Transylvania County. With that being said there is no reason to search around for the best waterfalls in and around the area, Craig Miller, Transylvania County Resident, has created a tour to show the best waterfalls around, some that are not on the map. Craig Miller will offer a tour of 6-7 waterfalls located on private land) that are designed with senior citizens and children in mind. You can request a tougher hike for the advanced. The rates are $75.00 for couples and $10.00 for each additional person, the tours will start around 8:00am and last anywhere between 4-6 hours.

Slick Rock Falls is located just north of the Pisgah National Forest Ranger Station right off of U.S 276. These falls got their name from the slick rocks that are at the top and bottom of the falls. Please use caution if you decide to take a closer look. The height of the falls is exactly 35ft and very easy to get to. The best time to visit this waterfall is said to be after a rain or shower.
If you are looking for something a little bit more exciting, then you should definitely check out Cove Creek Falls. This waterfall is also near Slick Rock Falls, so you could possibly get a two for one on this hiking trip. Be aware that there is a slightly tougher hike to this waterfall approximately a mile from the parking lot, but it is well worth it. The waterfall has a drop of over 60ft and once you get to the top it is kid and senior friendly.
Looking Glass Falls is one of the most recognized waterfalls in America. It is located directly off of U.S 276, about 5.5 miles from the Pisgah National Forest entrance. If you travel 1 mile north of Looking Glass Falls, you will find Moore Cove Falls right off of U.S 276. This is a favorite for most visitors and hikers alike. Upon arrival you find the parking lot and a wooden foot bridge that leads to the trail and waterfall. The trail will also lead you directly behind the waterfall. This waterfall is a great place to cool off; or take some of the most beautiful pictures from inside the waterfall. The waterfall sits a height of 50ft.
All of the waterfalls mentioned earlier are within an hour or two driving distance from Greensboro, however some of the more spectacular and higher waterfalls are located a little further away. This waterfall is almost a 3 hour drive from downtown Greensboro.
Whitewater Falls is the highest waterfall in North Carolina and east of the Mississippi. This waterfall has a drop of more than 400ft and can been seen from the parking lot. From Brevard, you will take Hwy 64, and go about 18 miles to reach the parking area. The hike is very easy and there are pit stop restrooms along the way for needed breaks.
