There are plenty of ways in which you can lower your blood pressure along with medications. Notice I said, "along with medications." I do believe that just changing your lifestyle habits along will reduce blood pressure. You can lower the medicine you have to take possibly, but still some type of medication is needed to help control the blood pressure and keep it out of dangers from going drastically high.

Natural ways along with medications that help lower blood pressure involve certain things. Are you heavy? If so, reduction of weight will certainly help to lower blood pressure. Trying to lower your weight with the DASH diet approach can help many people. The DASH diet plan means dietary approaches to stop hypertension. This diet is very healthy and it emphasizes all of the good fruits and vegetables, lean meats, nuts, and seeds. The diet is restrictive in the bad fats which are saturated fats, and helps you in reducing your sodium levels too.

Exercising daily also helps to lower blood pressure, improve cardiac health and circulation. Try walking at least 15 minutes daily at first if you are not used to it. Then, increase that to 30 minutes daily five days a week. Exercising on a regular basis can help you to lower your blood pressure within 30 days or so if you make a regular habit of doing it, that is.

Cutting back on how much you are drinking alcoholic beverages may also help to lower your blood pressure. Drinking alcohol excessively, has a tendency to raise your blood pressure by quite a bit. Drinking alcoholic beverages in strict moderation can help your heart health, while sitting there and guzzling drink after drink, will definitely work against you.

Stop smoking. I know, I say it in many of my articles all of the time and I sound like a broken record. But smoking will definitely raise your blood pressure without a doubt. Studies have shown that it raises the blood pressure by 10 points or better after having smoked. Nicotine and other chemicals found in cigarettes are also very artery damaging and damaging to blood vessels. It is those two things most responsible for creating your blood pressure in the first place.

It is also important that when taking blood pressure medicines, that you stay under your doctor's care. You and your doctor should work as a team together to make sure your blood pressure stays on target. Your doctor may also suggest that you have a blood pressure monitoring device at home to keep track of it. These are easy to buy, and are worth the expense to monitor how well your medications and other management techniques are working for you.
