Best Wide Receivers for Fantasy Football Draft 2009

Josh Wiley
The 2009 Fantasy Football season is here and if you are reading this article you are likely trying to get ready for your draft. Wide Receiver in the past has been a tough position to predict a top 10 list for. You always seem to have 3 or 4 wide receivers that surprise everyone and make into the top 10 list. This article will look at my predictions for the top 10 fantasy football wide receivers and also a list of 3 sleeper and busts pick.

Top 10 Fantasy Football Wide Receivers for 2009 Draft

1. Larry Fitzgerald - Arizona

Most rankings or cheat sheets will have Larry Fitzgerald at the top position for wide receiver in 2009. Fitzgerald is just a stud and he showed everyone what he can do during the Cardinals playoff run last season. Fitzgerald will have Warner back throwing him the ball and should post top of the line fantasy football numbers for the wide receiver position. Depending on your league scoring system, Fitzgerald should get taken in late first round or early second round in most 2009 fantasy football drafts.

2. Andre Johnson- Houston

I rank Johnson second on this list but it was a toss up between him and Moss. Johnson is a phenomenal wide receiver and the Texans are a team that should be much improved in 2009. Johnson caught 115 passes last season and expect him to find the end zone more often in 2009. Keep Andre Johnson in sight on draft day after Fitzgerald is taken off the board. He will not last long.

3. Randy Moss- New England

The last season Moss played with Tom Brady he set NFL records for the wide receiver position. I would not expect that same magic in 2009 but you never know. Tom Brady should be healthy and has a knack for finding Randy Moss. Moss is a risky pick as he could end up at the top of the wide receiver rankings at the end of the season or he could be just another disappointment. I would gamble on Randy during your 2009 fantasy football draft after the first two wideouts are taken.

4. Calvin Johnson- Detroit

Calvin lived up to his expectations last season and vaulted himself into the top of the wide receiver position. He still does not have great quarterback to throw him the ball but expect his numbers to improve slightly. Johnson is so talented that he does not have to have a great quarterback and will still produce as a top 5 wide receiver. Draft Calvin Johnson in the 3rd round of your fantasy football 2009 draft.

5. Roddy White- Atlanta

Matt Ryan proved he is the real deal and he has developed a great connection with Roddy White. Expect the Ryan to White connection to stay hot in 2009. White posted big numbers last season should flirt with 100 catches, 1400 yards and 8 touchdowns this season. Solid player and solid pick in your 2009 fantasy football draft.

6. Greg Jennings- Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers should take another step forward in 2009 and will have Jennings to thank for it. Jennings is a big play wide receiver and should flirt with 10 touchdowns this season. Those 10 touchdowns plus the yards with it could make him worth taking at your 2009 fantasy football draft. Keep Jennings in top 7 wide receivers on your fantasy football cheat sheets.

7. Marques Colston- New Orleans

Colston was a disappointment for much of the 2008 fantasy football season but should bounce back in 2009. Expect Colston to connect with Brees for several catches and possible double digit touchdowns. Keep Colston on your radar at your 2009 fantasy football draft as he could be a sleeper since his numbers were down last season.

8. Reggie Wayne- Indianapolis

With Peyton Manning throwing him the ball Wayne should have several good seasons left in the tank. Wayne did not light it up last season and might be just the right price in 2009. Keep an eye on Reggie Wayne if he slips to far at your 2009 fantasy football draft.

9. Steve Smith - Carolina

Smith missed two games and still put up top 10 fantasy football wide receiver numbers in 2008. As long as Delhomme remains healthy, expect more of the same from Smith in 2009. Smith remains a solid wide receiver pick at your 2009 fantasy football draft.

10. Terrell Owens- Buffalo

You did not think we could write a top 10 wide receiver article and not mention T.O. did you? He remains a wide receiver that people love to hate but continues to put up solid numbers year after year. He traditionally plays great his first year with a new team. This could be one of his last good seasons and might be worth the risk at your 2009 fantasy football draft.

2009 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Sleepers: Roy Williams ( Dallas), Wes Welker ( New England) Devin Hester ( Chicago)

2009 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Busts: Braylon Edwards, Anquan Boldin, and Antonio Bryant

Keep this article handy for your 2009 fantasy football draft while ranking the wide receiver position. Good Luck!
