Best All-Around Wine Shop in Baltimore
Wells Discount Liquors, 6310 York Rd, 410-435-2700
Wells is a multifunctional department store for spirits in the Baltimore area. While they do a hefty trade in beer for the local colleges, they have a sizeable wine department and a separate room for the rarer and pricier vintages. If you're throwing a party and need three whites and three reds in the $10-$15 range the staff at Wells will happily help you pick out some tasty choices, and give you a case discount to boot. If you're looking for a special wine, you'll be shown into the wood paneled side room to peruse labels in the hushed ambiance. With carryout service for large orders, and lollipops for your younger "assistant shoppers," Wells has been a Baltimore favorite for years among all ages and demographics.
Best Baltimore Bargain Wine Shop
Trinacria Foods, 406 North Paca Street, 410-685-7285
For the gourmet on a budget, nestled away in a tiny storefront just north of Baltimore's famed Lexington Market sits Trinacria. Those Baltimore natives craving Italian delicacies such as imported thinly sliced prosciutto, squid ink pasta, and fab cannoli filling, all at frugal prices, already know Trinacria as the ultimate Italian deli. For those seeking a stimulating accompaniment to their meal, that back shelf at Trinacria is worth a glance. A range of inexpensive but drinkable wine crowds the back of the store. Occasional clearance specials are extraordinary bargains, such as a Rosso for $6 a bottle! Be sure to check out the selection of Prosecco, too. Not every bottle is a winner, but at these prices it's worth the risk.

Bin 604 Wine Cellar, 604 South Exeter Street, 410-576-0444
Tony Foreman is best known for his restaurant endeavors with wife Cindy Wolf, including Baltimore's only four-star restaurant, Charleston. In a continuing expansion of the Wolf-Foreman empire, Bin 604 was created as a high end boutique wine shop specializing in small yield vintners. Named "Best New Wine Shop in the Country" by Food and Wine magazine in 2002, Bin 604 is the Baltimore stop when ready to impress and money is no object, or when looking to discover an obscure vintage to present as a truly unique gift for a wine connoisseur.
Best Baltimore Wine Shop for Having Fun
Wine Underground, 4400 Evans Chapel Road, 410-467-1615
Named "Best Wine Store" by Baltimore's City Paper in 2007, Wine Underground is a tiny shop nestled away on the border between Roland Park and Hamden. For those who like to have fun with their drink, this wine store has a young, hip vibe and friendly, helpful salespeople. The "underground", a wine cellar with rough stone walls and fresh pine racks, is a great space well worth a visit, especially during one of their frequent tasting events.
