5. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Publisher: LucasArts, Developer: Traveller's Tales, Release Date: November 6, 2007, ESRB Rating: E 10+
The biggest surprise in the best-selling Nintendo Wii games list for the first-half of 2009 has to be Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. The third-party game was released way back in 2007. It managed to show strong legs thanks to the brand power of Log and Star Wars. Not to mention that Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga also got pretty good word of mouth.
4. EA Sports Active
Publisher: Electronic Arts, Developer: Electronic Arts, Release Date: May 19, 2009, ESRB Rating: E
For years, third-party giant Electronic Arts has been dreading their sales performance on the Nintendo Wii. It looks like they finally got their breakout title with EA Sports Active. Feeding off the success of Wii Fit, this Nintendo Wii exclusive title comes with a leg pouch and resistance band to further expand on your Wii exercise activities. As a result, EA Sports Active is one of the best-selling Nintendo Wii games in the first-half of 2009.
3. Mario Kart Wii
Publisher: Nintendo, Developer: Nintendo, Release Date: April 27, 2008, ESRB Rating: E
The Mario Kart series is one of the most popular video game franchises from Nintendo. Thus, it is still selling in the first-half of 2009 despite being released in the spring of 2008. Mario Kart Wii strikes a perfect balance with hardcore gamers and casual players. So it is no surprise that the Nintendo Wii exclusive is one of the best-selling games in sp far this year.
2. Wii Play
Publisher: Nintendo, Developer: Nintendo, Release Date: February 12, 2007, ESRB Rating: E
Wii Play is the oldest game in the list. This should come at no surprise since it comes packed-in with the Wii Remote. Since it is a much better deal than just buying the accessory alone, many prospective buyers chose the bundle instead of the standalone Wii Remote unit when searching for a second controller. Because of the high demand, Wii Play is one of the best-selling games for the first-half of 2009.
1. Wii Fit
Publisher: Nintendo, Developer: Nintendo, Release Date: May 19, 2008, ESRB Rating: E
Thanks to the motion capabilities, many see the Nintendo Wii as a workout machine. Nintendo decided to take advantage of the opportunity by releasing Wii Fit along with the Wii Balance Board. Thanks to smart marketing, Wii Fit constantly sold out in stores despite the $89.99 price tag. So while Nintendo may be struggling so far in 2009 in terms of hardware sales on the Nintendo Wii, it has enough evergreen title like Wii Fit to still beat out the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
