In a recent press release, the committee for medicinal products for human use has chosen put its approval of Betaferon on the label a miracle drug for multiple sclerosis. Betaferon has been proved a significant treatment in newly emerging multiple sclerosis cases for initial treatment. The BENEFIT research has shown that there is a delay in the progression of the disability of multiple sclerosis with the early treatment.

The results show that the treatment with BetaFeron shortly after the first attack of multiple sclerosis in a clinicals leading delays the development of the steady disability progression over three years by 40%. This is extraordinary, because no other MS therapy has shown to have this effect this early in the clinical setting. The endorsement is due with the end of December 2007, and if approved, it would enhance the label of the betafferon.

Betaferon has demonstrated the ability to delay the disease progression. So early, and this is highly unusual in spite of the fact that many patients with the early signs of multiple sclerosis, do not show a marked progression in the disability. Any delay in the progression is a great thing and one that is very much welcome by those people who do have multiple sclerosis.

Betaferon is used worldwide as an approved treatment for those patients suffering from multiple sclerosis, this recommendation from the committee for medical products for home human use, on the label will make even more patients feel secure about their treatment choice.

Benefit is a multi-center trial comparing Betaferon treatment, which I started after a first clinical attack with delayed treatment. The steady is being held at 98 sites, in 20 countries, for 468 multiple sclerosis patients who have been newly diagnosed with the disease.

Betaferon, which is trademarked under the name of Betaseron was the first disease modifying drug treatment for multiple sclerosis, and is a well-established treatment for multiple sclerosis around the world. For 16 years patients have been treated with this drug, and it is shown to be safe and well tolerated and effective in the US, Europe and Japan.
