The fortune for Bethesda Softworks began to turn around with the release of The Elder Scrolls: Arena in 1994. The epic open-world role-playing game is played in a first-person perspective and in unapologetically difficult. While the game was far from perfect, it managed to become a cult-hit among PC gamers.
The success of the first game resulted in a sequel being produced. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall was released two years later on the PC. Like its predecessor, the sequel is an open-ended game where you can choose to explore anywhere you please. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall is noted for its massive world, which covers over thousands of square miles. This is multiple times bigger than its sequels: Morrowind and Oblivion.
Popularity of the Elder Scrolls series really took off long after the release of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was released six years after the second mainline title. It brought the series into the home console realm for the first time as the third title came out on the Xbox in addition to the PC. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind received critical-acclaimed and became a best-seller.
Things only went up from there for Bethesda Softworks. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion became the most highly-rated popular game in the series yet when it was released in 2006 for the PC and Xbox 360 in addition to 2007 for the Playstation 3. Furthermore, they also released Fallout 3, which went on to sell millions of copies and win several Game of the Year awards in 2008.
Bethesda Softworks and their The Elder Scrolls series have traveled a long road throughout the last 15 years. So to celebrate the anniversary, Bethesda Softworks is giving away The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall for free. Thus, you can now download the first two Elder Scrolls titles without having to pay anything.
Keep in mind, however, that the two games are old and therefore require software emulation. You can find all the information you need on the following official download link:
