Better Know a Presidential Administration: Rudy Guliani

Examining the Inner Workers of a Future Presidential Administration

pillowpants
I've been doing a lot of research as of late as far as the upcoming presidency is concerned, and I decided that it would be best to show what the leading candidates presidential administrations would look like.

As many are aware, it is not just the president that defines the country. Without someone like Dick Cheney or Rumsfield or Ashcroft in a position of power in the current presidential administration, Bush would not have made some of the decisions he has made.

So I did research. I went through countless articles, searched wikpedia and read up on every major politician from the past 27 years. I looked at top fund-raisers and union heads, oil company ceos and tobacco executives, environmentalists and warhawks, and liberals/conservatives. And the fact is this; A lot of the impending administration decisions are frightening. Keep in mind, when I first talk about Vice Presidents, I am going to ignore the obvious choice of the runner up in the primary race as I view that as somewhat ridiculous.

So without further adue, let me present to you.....Rudy Guliani's presidential administration.

President Rudy Guliani
Vice President:
Choice 1:Fred Thompson: An obvious first choice, Thompson provides everything to the presidential race that Guliani does not. He is conservative on the social issues, has embraced the internet as a medium to harass his liberal foes, and has lots of comparisons to Ronald Reagan under his belt.
Choice 2: Condi Rice: Guliani would choose Rice as his running-mate in a race where Hillary is his opponent. Balancing his ticket with a single black woman would greatly enhance his chances in the "Blue States," that republicans don't even bother visiting. Her foreign policy experience as well as experience in a previous presidential administration will bode well for this choice.

Secretary of State
Choices 1&2: Zalmay Mamozy Khalilzad or John Negroponte: Guliani is going to pack his administration with Iraq hawks from this administration and these two are the most qualified to take this position. With Negroponte you have an ex-ambassador to Honduras, Mexico, The Phillipines, The United Nations, and Iraq. He served as the Deputy Secretary of State under Reagan, Director of National Intelligence and now is the Deputy Secretary of State under Bush. Khalilzad on the other hand, worked in the state department under Reagan and has been the ambassador to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the UN under Bush.

Secretary of Defense
Choice 1: David Petraues: Guliani will want to keep the same state of affairs in Iraq, and appointing a man on the front lines to oversee this war would be his best choice of action. Peter Pace, Tommy Franks, or John Abizaid could also fit this role.

Ambassador to the United Nations
John Danforth: He's a rational republican who has gone as far as to support Gulaini's candidacy and would accept this position because Rudy doesn't take his religion and wear it as a political platform.

United States Attorney General
Choice 1: Ted Olsen: These two get along tremendously and Olsen has all the experience in the world under his belt. Plus, if Supreme Court Justice Stevens dies or retires in a Republican administration, this man is most likely going to be his replacement. Every sign points to this.

Secretary of the Treasury

Steve Forbes: Seeing as Guliani is a huge autocrat, and recent treasury secretaries have been CEO's of different corporations, this will probably be a good choice to make for Guliani as Forbes is one of the bigger fundraisers for Guliani's campaign.

Secretary of Homeland Security
Susan Collins: The immensely popular senator from Maine is the number one spot for this position as she is the ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee and generally well-liked by both sides of the aisle.

White House Press Secretary:
Tony Snow: Guliani will keep the current secretary on as his own, if only because Snow is such a great lair and it could be quite the partnership when Guliani needs good PR for his authoritarian moves.

Secretary of the interior

Choice 1: Duncan Hunter: This position is almost always filled with someone from a western state, and seeing as Hunter has portrayed himself in the current cycle as the war-hawk strong on protecting the Homeland, I see this as a completely valid choice.

Choice 2: Lynn Scarlet: She's the current Deputy Secretary, so its possible she could be moved up to the Secretary position.

Chief of Staff

William Bratton: Current commissioner of the LAPD, he was also NYPD commissioner while Guliani was mayor and together they helped lower the crime rate in the city. Seeing as this is one of those positions where it is not odd to put your friends in the spot, this is highly plausible.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

David Vitter: Currently a Senator in Louisiana, I don't really see him running for re-election after his outing by the DC Madam. Vitter is a cochair of Guliani's national campaign and to think he won't be rewarded for this isn't exactly the greatest idea.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs:

Gordan Mansfield: He is the current Deputy Secretary

Secretary of Labor

Dan Glickman: He is a former secretary of Agriculture under Clinton, and has since taken to giving a lot of money to Republicans, specifically Guliani. It would only make sense to give him a Cabinet Level post in the administration

National Security Advisor -

Mark Racicot: This guy was Bush's first choice as Secretary of Defense until Cheney. He hasn't expressed his support for a particular candidate in the upcoming election, but I guarantee he will be in the next administration of a Republican. He will probably start off in a NSA position, only to move on to Secretary of Defense once the first one resigns.

Secretary of Commerce

Tom Donohue: He is just a form AFL-CIO president who got along with Guliani and worked with him in New York. He will be rewarded.
Secretary of Health and Human Services -

Robert Ehrlich: Former Governor of Maryland and head of Guliani's mid-atlantic chair committee.
Secretary of Transportation -

Bill Graves: He refused the job in 2001 because he did not want to work for George Bush, but he is a strong supporter of a Guliani campaign and will get rewarded.
Secretary of Energy

Christine Todd Whitman: She could be the first female Republican President. Former EPA head, she's published books trashing her own party for the way it acts, and has shown political views akin to Guliani. He would be stupid not to include her in his cabinet, and what better place than one where she can control things that affect the Environment.
Secretary of Education

Mitt Romney: This will be a purely strategic role, setting up a Romney run as Secretary of the treasury later on the administration. This is low-level enough to not raise many eyebrows.
Secretary of Agriculture:

Charles F. Connor: He is the current Deputy secretary of Agriculture and will just be moved up

This is just the beginning. I will touch upon Hillary Clinton next.
