Betty Crocker Apple Streusel Miffin Mix Review
What a Wonderful Way to Start the Day with Fresh Muffins
I bought this mix at Krogers and was really looking forward to testing it since I love apples and streusel topping.
It come is a 19.6 oz box (1 Lb 3.6 oz) or 55g box and has everything but the water, eggs and oil inside . The muffin mix is separate fort the streusel topping and it is super easy to mix with the other ingredients. I chose to make it as muffins since I could always place ready prepared muffins in plastic bags for another day. We could not eat 12 muffins in one day, well we could but it wasn't a good idea.
The ingredients listed in this mix are: enriched flour, wheat, sugar, partially hydrated soybean or cottonseed oil, dried apples, brown sugar, modified corn starch, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, corn starch, spices non fat milk and assorted small amounts of other non descript things.
What you do is heat the oven to 425 and then place paper baking cups in you muffin pans or you can grease the bottom of the muffin pans. I choice the paper cups as it is easier to clean up afterwards.
You mix the powdered muffin mix with 3/4 cups of water, 1/4 cup of oil and 2 eggs. It warns you the batter will be lumpy and that is because of the apples piece in the mix. Then you divide the batter into the 12 prepared muffin pans, filling each cup 2/3 full.
Once you have the muffin cup filled you open the streusel mix and sprinkle an equal amount of this on each muffin, patting it into the batter below very gently. Place in the oven and bake for 17 to 22 minutes until the tops are nicely browned and muffin are firm.
This was one of the best mixes I have ever tried that was a ready mix. It was easy to prepare and the taste was "to die for". We had a hard time not wanting to eat all these muffins in one sitting. They are really everything they advertise them to be. I did not try it as a bread, but am sure it would be equally as good.
I highly recommend this mix, but suggest that if you are diabetic, be careful as it will wreck your sugar if you eat many of these at one sitting. Both my husband and I are diabetic. I only ate one of the muffins but had to pull him off them after he devoured three of them before I was even aware of it. This was not good for him.
It says that 1 serving is 180 (which is 1 muffin) from the mix but is 240 after it is prepared. It has 80 calories from fat with a total of 5 grams after it has been prepared. The rest of the values are as follows: cholestesterol 0 mg, sodium 279 mg, potassium 25 mg,
carbohydrates 37 grams, protein 2 grams.
There is 2% calcium, 6 % iron, thiamin 8%, riboflavin 6 %, niacin 4 %, folic acid 8%.
I used a coupon to purchase this product and so it was cheaper than it would have been without it, plus it was on sale. The regular price was $2.50 for a box which was a bit pricey, but frankly if you were having company for breakfast it would make a wonderful treat for your guest, even at that price.
