Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing Makes Decorating a Snap

A Product Review

Charlotte Kuchinsky
My grandchildren are used to being spoiled. They deserve it so I'm glad to oblige.

One of the things I most love doing is decorating treats for them. I particularly like decorating cakes, cookies, gingerbread men and brownies. However, I'm cautious to never let them over indulge.

One of the products I love using when I am decorating is Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing. It is an excellent product that lives up to its claims.

First of all, it promises to be ready to use. That's true. Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing comes in a squeeze pouch with its own icing tip. All you have to do is squeeze out the icing and decorate your item however you please. That is worth 5 out of 5 stars.

It also promises to be easy to use. I have to beg to differ a little bit on this claim. There is a short learning curve for discovering how to best use this product. However, once you do, you'll be able to move at Mom (or Nana) super speed. That is worth 4 out of 5 stars.

Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing claims no heating is required. That's true. The packaging is so good on this product that it stays airtight until you are ready to use it. It gets another 5 out 5 stars for this claim.

The product also claims it only takes minutes to use. Again, there might be a little disagreement on this claim. It depends on the amount and type of decorating involved. Because it is all set to go, though, the startup time is slashed considerably. I give it 4 out of 5 stars here.

Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing says it will decorate up to one dozen 2" cookies. That's about right, give or take a half-dozen cookies. The more décor you put on the item, the more icing it will use. It gets 4 out of 5 stars here as well.

That adds up to 22 out of possible 25 stars. It averages out to 4.2 stars, which is good.

Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing comes in a 7-oz. pouch done in Betty Crocker Red and white with their logo on the front, gold trim with black, blue and white lettering.

Two tablespoons represent a single serving, making roughly 6 servings in each pre-measured pouch. There are 110 calories in each serving.

Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing contains no fat but is high in carbohydrate at 28 grams and sugar at 27 grams. It also contains 70 milligrams of sodium. On a positive note, Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing offers 1 gram of fiber.

Ingredients include both artificial and natural flavors along with cocoa corn syrup, salt, sugar and water. It also includes gum arabic, potassium sorbate, propylene glycol alginate and xanthan gum.

To use this icing, you must begin by kneading the pouch to make certain the ingredients are well blended. Then remove the cap and, using a pair of scissors, snip off the tip. You can snip closer to the top for finer work and closer to the ring for less delicate work.

Applying even pressure, squeeze the icing out of the pouch and onto the surface to be decorated. Be sure to keep a smooth, even flow for the best results.

The icing will begin to set in about 5 minutes. Therefore, make any necessary changes before setting begins.

Betty Crocker Decorating Cookie Icing is a product of General Mills and Signature Brands, LLC of Ocala, Florida.
