Beware of the 2003 GMC Jimmy

Katy Biondo
If you are going to buy an automobile by the GMC industry, be careful what you choose. My fiancée and I know that the GMC 2003 Jimmy is of little use for a car. You spend half your time fixing it up. Just what do you have to fix up? Well, where does the list begin?

So, far since the five years that my fiancée has had his car he has had to replace the fuel pump. Once is understandable, but he has had to replace the fuel pump a few times. He's also had to replace the brake pads at least four times since he's had the car. Add that to the starter and the motor which runs the windows and doors and you has a nice chunk of money that has gone into fixing the thing. A car should not be this much work if you ask me.

Those were just the major things that have gone wrong with the vehicle since then. Since we've had to replace the fuel pump and we do believe it's because of the fuel pump there is a shimmy with the Jimmy that will not go away that comes when you hit about fifty miles per hour. Not to mention the handle that allows the passenger seat to sit back broke off and I found out that those are all the first things to go from what others who have had the same make and model have said. About every possible button goes within the first two years of having the vehicle and I can just about believe it for that is almost what has happened to this vehicle.

So, you might just be thinking that this is just the hassles of having a GMC Jimmy, but this isn't the case at all. Anyone that I have spoken with about any automobile produced by GMC has had complaints of the same nature. I think Ford might not be the fix or repair daily vehicle anymore ladies and gentleman. So, before you run out to buy that vehicle you have been looking at you might want to read what others have read on different sites they have discussing the major problems that have gone on with theirs. You better believe that while my fiancée is looking for his next truck, he's doing his homework. So, it was a oops to us and oops to GMC.

I have a 2003 JImmy since new...it has never had any problems other than I changed out the u joints 2 years in and improved my milage by about 80kms per tank. The motor, trannie and the truck in general is solid and today at 198 000 kms the only issue I have is that the dash is the hottest I have ever seen in my life and has been since new. I love this truck and intend to drive it another 6yrs.
