Beware of Health Insurance Plan Scams

Discounted Healthcare is an Entirely Different Animal Than Health Insurance

When a scammer sees a chance to steal someone's money, they slip right in and take it before anyone even realizes what they did. This is the case with some health "insurance" offers that you may see on the internet, in your email or even on your phone. Many American's have already lost health coverage through their work or can no longer afford the higher rates that they are being charge. Many more people may be losing their health insurance as jobs are lost and cutbacks are made making them part time and ineligible for healthcare coverage at their jobs. That is where health insurance fraud comes into play.

It is important to be aware of the possibilities of healthcare insurance fraud. The ABC news website reports that discount healthcare is being disguised as health insurance. There is a huge difference between healthcare insurance and healthcare discounts. The main difference is that you usually don't get that large of a discount for the services that you get when you go to the doctor or hospital. You will probably pay more for the healthcare discount card than you will actually save when you go to the doctor. That is something you have to take into consideration.

If someone sends you information on health insurance, be certain that you check it out thoroughly before you decide to purchase the package. A discount means that you will still pay the majority of the medical bill which can still cost too much for you to afford. Healthcare insurance is a completely different entity because in many cases the health insurance company will pay most of the medical bills leaving you with a possible small deductible or co-pay that you can actually afford.

The old adage that you get what you pay for is true in this case. If someone is offering you health insurance at an extremely lower rate than what you would otherwise be able to get, chances are that it is a scam. If you know that it is a discount card rather than a health insurance package that you are getting and still decide to get it, that is one thing. If you are mislead into believing that you are purchasing health insurance and it turns out to be a discount, you will be in for a rude awakening when you get the bill for medical services.

Medical insurance is a necessity because most people can't afford to pay for health services out of pocket. Even the smallest of health issues can cost hundreds of dollars. Know what you are getting when you decide to purchase healthcare "insurance. It may not be insurance at all and that is most definitely a bad thing.
