Beware the Narcissist

You and You

Loraine Alkire
Beware the Narcissist

You and I were meant to be
but only in philosophy
For when you add up two and two
There is only you and you.

I am alone in this world with you
You have me by your side
But I have to hide what I feel
You, it's all about what you do

And where you'll take me
Me? I'm there for the ride
And you forsake me time again
I can never be your friend

You and I were meant to be
but only in philosophy
For when you add up two and two
There is only you and you.

I don't exist
I'm just the rabbit ears that you adjust
When life gets fuzzy and you must
Take a break

For Heaven's sake,
Did you ever know me?
You and you and you and you,
Did it ever get so lonely?

You and you and you and you,
Did you want to know me?
You never wanted to hear
You never wanted to see

You never wanted to be
Someone for me,
only in philosophy
For when you add up two and two

There is only you and you
I'm just the pulpit that you hammer on
I am just the culprit
When you yammer on.

I am just the shrinking of my soul
As merrily you roll along ...
With you and you and you and you
and you and you and you and you ...

Not me.

I assume you women are talking about me! Who else could it be but me, me, me!

Did we have the same fella?

A world of one must be lonely indeed, especially for the one who loves the narssicist. I know from experience that there is no more profound lonliness than that experienced in a bad marriage.

Great poem. I hope this person is very happy with himself and himself and himself and himself. (I assumed it was a man. But I could be wrong...)
