Beware of Prescription Drug Addiction

Donna Daniels
Prescription drugs are prescribed by a doctor but they are not always safe even though a doctor prescribed them. You can get addicted to many drugs that are prescribed by a doctor when they are used to a long period of time. If you have taken a drug for a long time your body can develop a tolerance toward the drug especially drugs to treat anxiety, insomnia or pain.

If you take some drugs long enough you will need to take larger dose of that drug in order to have an effect from the drug. If you take the drug long term your body can become dependent on the drug.

Whenever a doctor prescribes a drug you should ask the doctor several questions about the drug. questions about the drug and what it will do for you and to you. Always give your doctor a complete medical history including a list of all prescription and over-the-counter medicines you take. And always ask about alternative ways of treating your problem. There may be something you can do for your condition besides taking a drug.

With every drug you take ask if it can be addicting. If it is ask if there is something you can take that will do the same thing for you that is not addicting. Always ask about what bad reactions could occur by taking a medication before you take it.

Before you start to take any prescription medicine ask if there is anything you should not eat or do while taking this medication that would be harmful. When you start to take a medication always follow the instructions for the medicine. Stop taking the medication when you should stop taking it and always take all the medication you are supposed to take.

Follow your doctor's instructions and never take any more of your medication or any less of it then you are supposed to.

Remember it is your body and your health. Ask your doctor any questions that are of concern to you. Make sure any drugs you take are safe for you and safe to take with any other prescriptions you may be taking. Never take another person's medications even if you have the same symptoms of the other person. A drug may be safe for one person and give another person a very bad reaction.

When you take any prescription it is important to work with your doctor and pharmacist to prevent any misuse and to get the best help for you as possible.
