Well as I said the day came that she passed and we did as she to do. While we were at the funeral home we made the call to them and was told they would not be doing anything. The death insurance paid just as it was supposed to so we were able to give her the burial that she deserved. But because she had put all of her faith into the prepaid legal service, we ended up having to hunt down all of her accounts and other final arrangements. But that's not even what upset us as we were glad to do it for her. What upset us was the fact that we were told that she was dead and the company had no further obligations to her. Now my mother was not a rich woman by any means, but she did have a lot of things that had to be handled after her death. But the fact that they refused fulfill the obligations that they did have to her, wasn't even the worst part of it. That wouldn't come till the next month.
I'm not sure how many are aware that once a person dies, the family cannot close their bank accounts or even remove the money until all outstanding checks have been paid. And the social security office says to leave it open for a minimum of 3 months to insure they can retrieve any money paid to them after their death. Well following the bank and the social security's rules we did leave her account open. One day I go to retrieve her mail and there was a statement from the bank stating her account was over drawn. Now knowing that all of her checks had already cleared her account and all credit accounts were paid by the insurance on each of them, we could not figure out why her account was now over drawn. So we go to the bank and find out that Primerica was still taking $25.00 a month out of her account. When we called them to get it cleared up we were informed that they had all rights to continue taking the money, because they were not notified of her death. Which was a complete lie. As I said we had spoken with the person that was supposed to handle her final arrangements at the funeral home. And was told they would not be doing anything for her as she was dead and they had no obligation to us.
Now the company that was supposed to protect her interest was bankrupting a woman that prided herself in not ever being in debt after her death. We had to pay back the bank the money they took plus all of the fees they charged for it being over drawn. The insurance is a good one to have as they did pay as they said.
I'm not sure if any of you will find this information useful but I felt I should take a moment to warn everyone about the prepaid legal services offered by Primerica.

Post a CommentPrimerica Prepaid Legal Plan PLPP is just a discount access to real lawyers. The subscriber must actually contact those lawyers and have legal documents prepared: Wills or trusts, powers of attorney, etc. must be prepared to follow the wishes of the subscriber. PLPP does not prepare the documents. You must contact a real lawyer to get the documents drawn up to fulfill the wishes of the person on their passing.
Just for a degree of reasonableness. How much legal work do you really expect for $25 a month. The service is suppose to be for limited assistance. If anyone's mom, uninformed person or someone who doesn't read details has anything of importance, help them by reading the contracts. Don't just sit back even when mom says everything will be taken care. Say to your loved one, let me check it out for you. By the way, where is your will loved one. We can blame anyone we won't to for things we purchase, but it's ultimately our responsibility to understand it. $25 a month for any product will not solve everyone's problem.
it's hard to complain about something that was bought by someone else. You really not sure what she has bought and what she was told. I have several services from this company over the last 25 years. never a problem. But-- I'm still alive too!
I am sorry to hear about your lost. I got nothing but good advice when my dad died. I can't tell you what a peace of mind having this service meant to me, since my dad worked and lived in different states and I live in a different state. Some one was either over sold or didnt know how this works. Plus when insurance company tryed to take advantage of me in this situation I got almost ten thousand dollars out of the deal! My membership has more than paid for it self many times over and that just one of the times I used it! You really needed to have this service personally for it to work for you:)
her will done. It is a part of the policy however that she was supposed to get it notarized and put in a safe place or given to the person that would carry out the "final arrangements." Members that own the plan should know their plan well enough. As Dannyboy says, members put the company in shining light, just as any member does who is a part of a great company that they understand. If you don't understand the company or what they do, "no doubt" you will have bad things to say. Due to a lack of details on this story, no one will really know what happened, just like any other story...all one sided to portray something they may not understand. Many things written in this article shows a lack of understanding of Primerica and Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. Who is at fault? The rep possibly could have explained things better and maybe the attorney could have better explained it. But ultimately, the children should have gotten to know all policies so they could corre
First, I'm sorry this happened as it should not have happened. I believe it is just a lack of communication between associate who sold the plan, the mother, the company and the children. It is not just a company's fault. Let me first say that Primerica is NOT Pre-Paid Legal Services, but they are a partnership. Associates that sell the plan with Primerica have nothing to do with associates selling directly with Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. We are endorsed under the Better Business Bureau. Are there bad reps, as Bobby claims? Yes there are just as with any other company. Does it mean it is a scam or people or the company is training to take people's money? NO! Both Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc and Primerica are great companies that do not train their associates to do bad business. Having said that, I do believe that the associate in this case may have misrepresented the idea, possibly on accident and the mother thought it would be "taken cared of" because she got
Whoever originated this original story has no clue how the PPL membership works. As part of his mothers membership she had the access to have her WILL prepared for no additional cost. The membership in no way shape or form allows anyone to contact the lawfirm under the memberhip holders membership number - this is why they could not speak with you. I'm not sure what your defining as they were supposed to "handling final arrangements", however I can tell you again that if she had her will written up by PPL then PPL fulfilled their obligation under the membership...PERIOD. I can also tell you that once your mother passed then you could have used that "card" she gave you and call the customer care line on the back and informed them of the passing of your mother. Of course, like any other good company, they are not just going to take your word or anybody's word for it, I'm sure they would need documented proof which you could easily provide for them. H
^that they cover of when in fact you would need a lawyer its actually ends up being a lot cheaper to just call and get a lawyer vs using a prepaid legal service. The reason why they been around for so long is not because of a solid company but rather they have preyed on so many gullible people paying so they can pay off their court fees and investigations , another fact. No doubt that the company has done a few good things but it is far far out weighed by the bad kind of iconic that they sell a legal service eh?
Also no doubt that members of this company are going to portray the company in shining light and forget about the facts, its time to wake up and smell the coffee
Its surprising how many gullible people buy into the story of prepaid legal soon as they see $ it makes people get tunnel vison and are blind to all disturbing facts about the company. If nothing has even raised a small red flag when you thought about it, thats just shocking. But at the same time the company need gullible people to stay a float as they continue to rip off people. If you do your math and know a small common bit about how things work in law that you might run into... most what they offer you can get free and to top it off there’s a lot of things people don’t even need a lawyer for witch they feed back at people making you think you need one. Also theres things that prepaid legal will not cover... This is a good example of people not knowing the law and how things work thinking they need a service like this also show how many people don’t have morals by using a fraud/pyramid/ponzi (and yes this is a fact). If you do the math on it for the very limited service that t
I am currently training with Primerica and I know that they do pay on their Policies. But I am appalled to find out how Primerica's Pre-paid Legal Plan handled the children. By the way, if you are not satisified with the services of your Attorney, you can always report them to the BAR. Start complaining on them formally!
