Many people use the Missouri Unemployment Insurance online claims filing system to file for unemployment benefits. However, there is much more that you can do on the website other than file for unemployment. If you would like to look for a job, scroll down and look at the menu on the left. Click on Missouri Career Source and you will be taken to a new screen. Before you click the Continue Button under Job Seeker, notice how many current job openings there are in the state of Missouri. For example, as of December 2009, there are 22,998 job openings across the state of Missouri that are listed on this job board.

Once you click the Continue Button you have the option of either registering with Missouri Career Source or you can simply browse the jobs. Note that by registering for a free account, you will be able to be matched with jobs for which you qualify, which means that you will have access to the contact information that coincides with the job posting. When you just browse jobs, you will not have that access. Still, it is a great tool to use when you want to know what kinds of jobs are available in your area.

If you prefer to search jobs rather than browse the entire database, you can search by location, salary, or even by shift. You can also enter keywords so that only jobs for a particular industry are shown. As you are searching, keep in mind that there are some jobs that will be listed through a state agency that will not be listed anywhere else. This may be because some companies get hiring assistance through the government whereby the government pays a part of the salary for new hires for so many months. While this is not always the case, it can be a powerful incentive for a company to seek out and hire workers through a government agency.

You will find a wide variety of jobs through the Missouri Career Source. Sure, there are plenty of minimum wage jobs but there are also a variety of professional positions that pay lucrative salaries. You will also find a great number of intermediate positions where some skill level, education, or experience is required.

In addition to being able to search for local jobs, you can also apply for jobs with the state of Missouri and you can search a nationwide job database as well. You can also search the database for career events, such as job fairs and recruiting events. If you are interested in getting further training or training for a new career, you can search the database for educational and training opportunities.

On the same page where you click on Browse Job Openings, you can also click on the menu item Research Economic Information. This will bring you to a new page titled Missouri Economic Research and Information Center (MERIC). This page is a portal to a great deal of information that jobseekers may find useful, including an up to date Missouri Career Guide. This guide, which is a 32 page handbook, will help you to make the most of your career opportunities. For example, if you were interested in an apprenticeship there is a link to the federal government's list of qualified apprenticeship programs and you could learn what it takes to get started in that direction. You might also be interested in viewing the list of Missouri's 50 Hottest Jobs, which you'll find on page 13 of the Missouri Career Guide. You could literally spend all day on the MERIC site looking at economic indicators and information that will be relevant to your industry and/or location. Just browsing the career guide offers a wealth of information and there are other resources that will help you to figure out your career options and implement a plan of action.
