Bialetti Mukka Express Electric Cappuccino Maker - A Review

Easy to Use Cappuccino Maker for Home Kitchens

Debbie Henthorn
The weather is turning colder and I'm turning to my favorite warm drink - cappuccino! While I will occasionally splurge for a fancy coffee-shop version, my favorite place to drink cappuccino is at home since the man presented me with a Bialetti Mukka Express Electric cappuccino maker in 2008.

The Bialetti Mukka Express Electric cappuccino maker is the perfect size for me, making one cup at a time. It comes with a measuring scoop for the espresso and a cup for the water - be sure to use the "gas" line on this universal measuring cup. Inside the actual pot is a measuring line for the milk. After assembling the Mukka Express cappuccino maker, I just press the on switch and wait a few minutes for my cappuccino.

I did have a little trouble learning how to use the Bialetti Mukka Express Electric cappuccino maker when I first received it. The "on" button doesn't actually click when you press on it. It took me several minutes to learn that there is a sensor inside the button and that I need to hold my finger on the on button for about 5 seconds to activate it. When my fingers are cold, it takes a little longer to activate.

In reading reviews online at Amazon.com, I read complaints about the difficulty of assembling the Mukka Express. I personally didn't have any problem other than forgetting to press down on the pressure pump. Some reviewers at Target.com mentioned the espresso oozing out of the machine but I haven't experienced that problem, either and I've always found the temperature of my finished cappuccino to be perfect. Over time, the rubber gasket that seals the two parts together will dry out and need replaced. A gasket and filter screen are available from the Bialetti website for $9.95.

The Bialetti Mukka Express Electric cappuccino maker is not cheap. I've seen recent prices ranging from $96.73 at Amazon.com to $139.99 at Target.com. To keep this investment in its best shape, clean it thoroughly and be sure it's dry before putting it away. The inside of the bottom unit will corrode.

A key to making good espresso and cappuccino at home is started with a good espresso-grind coffee. I'm fortunate to live near Columbus, Ohio and Stauf's Coffee Roasters. I keep a supply of Stauf's Americano Espresso Blend that they grind for me to make my cappuccino at home.

The Bialetti Mukka Express Electric cappuccino maker does require following the instructions, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who loves cappuccino at home.
