Bible School Crafts on a Budget: Unique Fruits of the Spirit Craft

Angela W. La Fon

Whether you're teaching Bible school, Sunday school or looking for Christian crafts to do at home, fruits of the spirit crafts are meaningful and fun. The fruits of the spirit (from Galations 5:22-23) are love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Wouldn't we all love to see more of each of these in our Bible schools, communities and homes. A fruits of the spirit craft gives kids a hands on way to remember the fruits of the spirit and can hang in their homes as a reminder to the whole family to strive for them daily. The value of these Bible crafts is great but the cost in really inexpensive.

Brainstorm to see how many fruits of the spirit the children you are working with can name. Use the scripture from Galations to complete the list . Now to give more meaning to the list, have students come up with an example of each. It is always so sweet to hear to what young children have to say. I'll never forget one little boy who told me he'd used his self-control when he wanted to eat all of the cookies on the snack table, but only took two.

This Fruits of the Spirit mobile craft has a real twist.

Materials:

Large construction paper

Pencils

Scissors

White paper

Crayons and markers

Glue, tape or glue dots

Directions:

For most mobiles people think of coat hangers or dowel rods with strings. This one is different and a lot of fun. You'll use a large sheet of paper and draw a spiral much like a snail shell. When the paper spiral is cut out, you'll have a cone shaped mobile with no strings needed.

Fruits could be randomly assigned to the fruits of the spirit as kids choice but DLTK Bible crafts has a suggested list that makes a lot of sense here.

Love = strawberry

Joy = pineapple

Peace = watermelon

Patience = lemon

Gentleness = peach

Goodness = banana

Faith = cherry

Kindness = grapes

Self-control = apple

Now kids will draw, color and cut out miniatures of each fruit and label each with the Fruit of the Spirit that they symbolize. Glue dots or tape are recommended to attach the fruits or kids should be advise to use glue sparingly to be sure the mobile spirals don't get glued together.

Extension:

Kids could even write examples on the spiral mobile between the fruits such as "hold a door" for kindness or "make a card" for joy. Adding examples helps kids to think about the ways they can show the Fruits of Spirit each day.
