Bible Study from Matthew 9:32-33

Healing from Demons and Satanic Forces

wendy van
This Bible Study comes from Matthew 9:32-33. It is a story of a demon-possessed man. This man was unable to talk because of the demon. Some people brought him to Jesus to be healed. We can learn a few things from this scripture.

The first thing that I want us to notice is that some people brought this man to Jesus. I want you to think for a minute as to whether you would want to get involved in something like this or not. This took a lot of courage on these peoples part. Who knows what this demon could do to them. If they did not know the Lord, maybe the demon could attack them. We need to be very careful when we get involved in situations with demonic forces. Are we in right standing with the Lord? Are we prepared and made strong in His word? Are we relying on the Lord or ourselves? This is nothing to play around with. These people obviously had great faith. They had so much faith that they brought this man to Jesus believing that He would heal the man. They believed that Jesus was greater than Satan.

The second thing that I want us to realize is that God can deliver those who are caught up into satanic realms. He can deliver demon-possessed men and women. He desires to deliver those people. Never give up hope if you know of someone who is caught up in this scene. You can be like the people were and intercede for your friend. These people brought this man to Jesus. You can do the same thing in prayer. Continue to intercede until you see a release. God hears your prayers and He will honor them. Don't give up.

This man had been robbed by Satan. He could not talk. Can you imagine what his heart was saying? I'm sure it was crying out to God to help him. God heard him. God hears our hearts. He knows what our hearts are crying out for. He is aware when Satan rips us off. He is aware that Satan steals from us. God is on our side and He wants to deliver us from attacks as well. We may not be demon-possessed, but yes at times we are demon-oppressed. Know that God has not given up on us. He hears His children's cries.

The next thing that I want us to think about is what did this man do after his mouth was released to speak? Did he go out and share about what God had done for him? Did he give God glory through his mouth? When God delivers us from oppression, do we go out and share? What about the people who brought the man to Jesus to be healed? How did they respond? I'm sure that their faith was built. I'm sure that they were encouraged. I know that I would be. I would want to go and find others and bring them to Jesus. God wants us to bring others to be healed. We need to go and share about what He has done. The Bible says that the crowds were amazed after this had taken place. Have we seen this amazement in people? If we haven't then it is time that we did.
