Bible Verses that Apply to You - Now

Old-time Writings Apply to Life Today

JUNEANN REED
Each of us has days of extreme sorrow - and joy- during our lifetime. We also have times where we have no control of a situation and times where words of inspiration can move us forward. These simple, yet comfortable, passages are my guideposts. Sometimes they are just a "post" to lean on.

In sharing, I'm hoping they will give you support also. I've been very blessed during my lifetime. I still have my parents, siblings children and grandchildren. However, my faith and need for inspiration sky-rocketed during the illness and then, death, of my husband of many years.

Bible verses than can apply to you and to me.

1. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24
God has a purpose for our being here on earth. Whether this day is good or bad, be thankful that you are here and one of his children.
[*This is my mother's favorite verse and she will gently remind me about it when she feels a need to help me.]

2. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
This is the verse my dad quoted to me, with teary eyes, when he found out I'd inherited Parkinson's Disease, a genetic disease of our family. You will have days where you feel fine, but you will also have sick days and times. Being sorry he probably wouldn't be here to help me when the disease progresses, he told me to rely, as he has done, upon these few words from our God.

3. There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven: ff. Eccl. 3:1-8
These verses immediately tell the story of life. Yes, there will be bad times, but there will also be times to dance. You will survive and move ahead with your life according to God's plan. I used these verses for my second wedding.

4. Lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the earth. [to the very end of the age.] Matthew 28:20
It has always been comforting to me to know that my God will always be with me and there for me. I appreciate that He puts his arms around me, guides me and protects me.

5. God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Anyone who has a child, and even those who have not, know how difficult it is to see the suffering of your own child. That God would allow his son to die for the sins of the entire world is beyond belief. If our God can do that and at the same time do even so many other things for each of us, this encourages me to get up and get moving so that I can help others. My biggest "helps" will be very small in comparison but sometimes it's the little things that bring so much joy into our lives and/or help us get on with our lives.

These are simply five verses. Pages could be written about each one. And as you know, there are thousands more. Our talks with God can also be simple. Sometimes we say we don't have time to read our Bible.

However, for a shorter period than we are stopped at a red light, we could pause, say one of these verses and say a short prayer. Try it - make it a habit.
