Bible Verses About Gluttony

What does the Bible say about gluttony? The Bible clearly warns us against gluttony and selfish desires. We have a tendency to seek pleasure. As believers we must learn to live in contentment and seek God's kingdom and righteousness first. Excessive indulgence of any earthly pleasure or material possession is against God's will for us. It is important that we guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. The Scriptures teach that we must live self controlled lives, love God first and to put Him above all things. God provides us with resources and blessings so we can enjoy them and share them with others.

Proverbs 23:1-3
When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.

Proverbs 23:4
Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint.

Proverbs 23:20-21
Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

Proverbs 25:28
Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.

He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.

Matthew 11:18-19
