Bible Verses in Honor of Mom on Mother's Day

Oh Mothers, Without Them There Would Be No One!

Sher E Hart
The ways to thank our moms are really endless. Mother's day is one of the busiest days of the year for the Phone Company, flower shops and card shops. Anyone of these verses could be included in a card and would be a blessing to moms!

Consider the Bible verse:

Ephesians 6:1 (NKJV)
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

Ahhh, obey; there is a word we don't hear very often. According to Answers.com Obey means:

  1. To carry out or fulfill the command, order, or instruction of.
  2. To carry out or comply with (a command, for example).
  3. To behave obediently.
Yes, we thank all of those moms who demand obedience from their children, teaching them respect, manners and forthrightness. Thanks moms, for showing us right from wrong.

Ephesians 6:2-3 (NKJV)
2 "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise:
3 "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth."

Honor, it is another word we seldom hear in reference to our parents. According to Answers.com Honor means:

    1. To hold in respect; esteem.
    2. To show respect for.
    3. To bow to (another dancer) in square dancing: Honor your partner.
  1. To confer distinction on: He has honored us with his presence.
  2. To accept or pay as valid: honor a check; a store that honors all credit cards.

How many mothers are really "honored" anymore? This Bible verse comes with a promise, "that it may be well with you..!" We honor you Moms, for your endurance, your strength, your compassion and your love. May we learn to walk with confidence from all you have shown us.

Moving right along...

Colossians 3:20 (NKJV)
20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.

Obedience, is pleasing! I'll say. It is to those of us who have children. So we desire to be pleasing, in fact, if we search deep enough we will see that this is true for all of us.

Moving on...

1 Timothy 5:3-5 (NKJV)
3 Honor widows who are really widows.
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God.

"Mom", after all you have done, stuck by us through thick and thin....we honor you who are widows. We desire to give back to you all you have sacrificed for us! Thank you Moms!

And yet another...

1 Peter 2:1-2 (NKJV)
1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,
2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

With the reality that mother's milk is one of the best things for a newborn baby this is perfectly fitting. Close to the chest of the Lord we come, like a newborn baby to receive the pure word! Thank you Father for an awesome mother!

Not forgetting...

Proverbs 31:1 (NKJV)
1 The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him:

Even a King listens to his mom! Thank you moms for your wisdom!

Proverbs 31:8-9 (NKJV)
8 Open your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy.

Continued words of wisdom! Give, Give, Give!

Proverbs 31:10 (NKJV)
10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.

Yes, Yes, Yes and how hard it is to find a woman today that actually WANTS to be ALL woman, finding the glory in being completely a woman! I once read that men have one less rib on their left side than women, this is not true, but those who have completely given of themselves know how precious life is and Moms know the meaning of sacrifice....far above rubies!

Proverbs 31:20 (NKJV)
20 She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.

To my mom and mother in law, yes you have been a picture of reaching out to the needy. Thank you for displaying your heart of love!

And last but certainly not least...

Proverbs 31:28 (NKJV)
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:

What a display of praise there is in the land on this "Mother's Day". A time when we stop to consider how it will bless her today to hear from us! All across the nation, the only criteria for this is love.

We love you Moms!
