In a world of stresses, striving, competition, and busyness, inner peace can elude even the most calm among us. Thankfully, the Bible has a lot to say about finding inner peace during times of trial. The following inspirational Bible verses help me to keep calm and rely on God.
Waiting for anything can be agony, and it can keep peace at bay. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end." Whenever I think something isn't happening as quickly as it should, I remind myself of this verse. The Bible promises that not only are things happening exactly when they should, but also that the order of events in the lives of God's people are beautiful. This verse helps me to feel calm and reassured.
Psalm 139:14 may be an unconventional choice for finding inner peace. But for those that struggle with self-image like I have, it is a comfort. The Psalmist says, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." This verse asserts that God makes people in a wonderful way, and that we can have confidence in his handiwork.
When nervousness and loneliness become a problem, Deuteronomy 31:6 has also been a comfort to me. It says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Is it possible that an awesome, powerful God is always with those who believe in him and seek him? I think so, and the Bible says it's true. Remembering that God is with me is a powerful source of peace.
Philippians 4:6-7 tells Christian believers directly what to do to attain inner peace. It says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Praying to a powerful God can be the perfect medicine for inner turmoil.
Finally, Hebrews 13:8 is a great comfort during times of uncertainty. It says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Most people go through all kinds of uncomfortable and challenging changes over the course of their lives. I always find it awesome to know that one thing, Jesus Christ, stays the same.
There's no doubt that finding inner peace is a challenge. But meditating and memorizing inspirational Bible verses about peace can help to calm worried minds. Verses that focus on God's power, unchanging nature, and perfect timing have continually reminded me that life is happening just as it should, and that I can have inner peace.
