Bible Verses About Our Appearance: God's View of Us

Focus on Developing the Inner Beauty

John Sachem
What does the Bible say about our appearance? The Bible teaches that God created us and that he knows each of us intimately. It is essential that we learn to accept God's view of us and live with contentment. There will be times when you feel unloved or not good enough because you base your opinion on your outward appearance. Don't let your emotions mislead you. Don't let people's opinions shape your identity in Christ. You are precious in God's eyes. God loves you and he wants you to live in faith and obedience to this will. God is faithful and His love for you endures forever. God has a purpose for you and it is essential that you focus on serving in His kingdom. You can make yourself presentable but focus on developing a godly character. Discover how you can honor God with your life. Focus on a ministry where you can use your talents and resources to serve the needs of others.

Here's a list of Bible verses about our appearance and identity in Christ.

Galatians 2:6
As for those who seemed to be important-whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not judge by external appearance-those men added nothing to my message.

1 Peter 3:3-4
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Psalm 139:13-16
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

1 Timothy 4:6-9
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Amen again John, as always. You're spot on it friend. My wife doesn't wear makeup, not because I would forbid it, no, but because her beauty that is inward, exudes outward into her life and she to me is my forever bride that I feel that I still just carried across the threshold. Such beauty that God sees is not from exteriors, but from interiors. You are so right. Good point. Thanks brother, and well done. :-)
