Baby Name Lists of People in the Bible

Kristen Wilkerson
Over the past few months, Examiner Kristen has researched the entire alphabet of biblical baby names. She put together a list for each letter highlighting some of the more popular baby names in the Bible. The following article summarizes the list for Examiner readers and shares her reasons for assembling such a list.

Kristen recently became an aunt again. Seeing her brother and his wife thinking about names inspired her to research biblical names. She started by writing about "Ab" names, and the response was tremendous and very encouraging. Hence, Kristen decided to continue creating. After about a month she proudly presented the list below and hundreds of people took note. Not only do people choose baby names from this list, but they learn about all sorts of interesting characters in the Bible.

Each baby name includes its biblical meaning, location in the Bible, a brief explanation of who the biblical person was, and some commentary. Here is a sample entry:
Vashti means "once desired, the loved." Esther 1:9;19 and 2:16. Vashti was once a great queen of King Ahaseurus, however, when he wanted her to show off her beauty to guests, she refused. As a result, the king stripped her of being queen and had a beauty contest to determine the next queen. The winner was Esther, and the rest is history.
