Biblical Devotions for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Breakfast
John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

When Jesus came to earth, one of the reasons that he was rejected was because He consistently referred to God as his Father. This was very objectionable and offensive to the Jews. The Jews, since the time of Moses, were always thought of as being God's chosen people. They couldn't stand anyone calling Jehovah their personal Father. However, this was one of Jesus' most important messages. He came to tell the people of the earth that it was not only the Jews that were God's chosen people but everyone that believeth on him.

In the Old Testament, while the Jews were in the wilderness for forty years, God fed them with manna. This "bread of life" was God's way of telling the Jews that they were his chosen people and that He would provide for them.

The same holds true for the people in the time of Jesus. Jesus was God's symbol to us of how much He loves us (see John 3:16). Jesus is the bread of life. Whoever believeth on him shall never hunger and never thirst because he or she has become one of God's children and God will provide for them.

Lunch
Colossians 2:10
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

Being complete in Jesus is the biggest gift that God has given us. There are many aspects in which God makes us complete in Jesus. When we were born into this world, we are actually dead. It is only when we take the step to believe in and give our lives to Jesus that we are born again. When we are born again, the Holy Ghost gives us new life and we are a new creation. (see 2Cor 5:17).

The world teaches us that we constantly have to improve. The worldly motto seems to be that we don't look good enough or we are not rich enough. As fleshly human beings we are always looking for material things that are going to make us feel whole or "complete".

The love of Jesus is all we need and it fills every void. When we are saved and are in Christ, we give our lives over to Jesus. No safer place can be found anywhere in the universe than in the fold of Jesus' flock. As a sheep in the flock of Jesus, who is the great shepherd, everything is taken care of for us and He loves us exactly as we are. We don't need to change for him. All we need to do is believe in Him. Of course God wants us to repent from our sins, but he really wants a repentance of the heart. If your heart is focused on Him, then He will guide your paths.

Dinner
John 8:12
Then Jesus spake again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

To understand light, it is fair to say that one must understand darkness. In the book of John 3:19 the Bible reads: "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." Here, Jesus is stating that darkness is synonymous with evil deeds.

Jesus was born without sin and continued to be sinless throughout his whole life. There was no evil in him at all. The first chapter of the gospel of John declares that Jesus was the true light, that Jesus was the Word, and that He became flesh. His deeds were not evil and there is no darkness in him at all, therefore he was light (see John 1:5). Jesus was the light of the world because He is the only pure and holy thing in an evil world. Psalms 119:105 states: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path". Jesus preached clearly that darkness is evil and light is good (see Matt. 6:22,23).

This world is full of evil and darkness. Satan owns this world and is the god of this world. If a person is doing evil he is in darkness. If we were all in a dark tunnel and wanted to get out of the tunnel, the way out would be to follow the light that we see. This is what the Bible is saying. Our evil deeds and our sin are signs that we are living in darkness. If we follow Jesus we can repent from our sin and be free from it. All those that believe that Jesus is the true light and follow it will be free from sin and darkness.
