Biblical View of the Undying Soul Doctrine

Robenson Louis
The doctrine of undying or immortal soul is unbiblical. Those who believe and teach that soul never dies but instead continually lives somewhere or is reborn in a different kind of body could become easy target for the evil's deceptions. It is important to share with them what the Bible teaches about death.

The truth is, God made us from dust in the beginning (Genesis 2:7). We, leaving being, are souls. That means a combination of two things: Body (dust) and spirit (breath of life). In clear, Body (dust) + Breath (spirit) = Souls; Body (dust) - Breath (spirit) = death.

In fact, a soul cannot exist without one of these two elements. So when a person dies the body turns to dust again, and the spirit (breath of life) goes back to God, who gave it. See, Ecclesiastes 12.7, James 2.26, and Job 27.3. Therefore, the dead are not going to heaven. Instead, they remain at their graves and await the resurrection day. They know absolutely nothing, and cannot communicate with the living. See, John 5.28, 29; Acts 2.29, 34; Job 17.13

At the second coming of Jesus, the righteous dead will be raised, given immortal bodies, and caught up to meet the lord in the air, along with the righteous living being:

"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever." 1 Thessalonians 4.13-17

However, the unrighteous that were already dead will remain at their graves awaiting their punishment, and the living ones will be dead. At the third coming of Jesus, along with the New Jerusalem, the unrighteous will collect their punishment as they will attempt to attack the saints:

"When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth-Gog and Magog-to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever". Revelation 20.7-10

What should you remember?

God made us from dust, and we are souls, which mean a combination of body (dust) and spirit (breath of life). When you die your body goes to dust and the breath of life goes back to God, who gave it. Therefore, the dead persons don't go to heaven. Instead, they remain at their graves, awaiting resurrection day. At the second coming of Jesus, righteous living being and dead ones will meet with Him in the air to go to heaven. The unrighteous will either remain to their graves if they were already dead or be dead if they are still alive at the second coming of Christ. At the third coming of Christ, along with the New Jerusalem, the unrighteous will be raised to collect their punishment.
