Bicycle Shops for Bicycles and Repair in the Fargo Moorhead Area
Fargo Moorhead, ND 58102 56560
The Scheels All Sports that are listed sell bicycles and do some repairs of the higher end bicycles but for any kind of major repair or maintenance your best bet is Island Park Cycles or Paramount Sports. Both the Paramount Sports and Island Park repair and maintain bicycles that they sell and ones you have bought elsewhere. They offer maintenance and repair on almost any type of bike and are familiar with a wide range of high end and performance bicycles.
Recumbent Bikes are the kind that you sit on and lay back some on. Your handle bars are more toward your body either right in front of you or toward you bottom end or tush. It sits lower than a regular bike and your sitting more like you would on a recliner than a bicycle. These bikes have been around for many years, since at least the 1930's when a man named Francis Faure broke a world hour record on one in 1933.
Road bikes are more your traditional street bikes we are used to seeing on the streets and sidewalks in our neighborhoods. Mountain bikes usually have the knobby tires and better tubing for standing up to the abuse of riding them off-road. Many of these off road models that you would buy at Walmart or Target are not really meant to be ridden much off road though.
If you want a good bike for doing off-roading like you see on the commercials where the guy is on the side of the mountain and jumping over and around logs and huge rocks you should look into a more high end off-road bike. If your going to be using your bike more in an off-road situation and doing a lot of it you should really look into some of the bikes that can take the abuse and rough stuff more than a less expensive model under a hundred dollars or so. This way your less likely to have an accident due to a bike part breaking that is not really meant for that kind of off-roading. It is not really that much more for a good off-road bike but some of the models they sell at local department stores are not really meant for the kind of off-roading many people would like to do.
If you really want to get into the performance racing and such there are models of bike available with skinnier tires and that weigh less for the on road racing and long distance riding. These are also more expensive but are built with the performance and racer in mind and have the features you would want for long distance riding.
No matter what type of bike you want you always have more choices than you might think. There is always your choice of a local Kmart, Target or Walmart along with the specialty bike shops. If you do get your bike from a local department store a word of caution. Check the bike over yourself and make sure things were put together correctly. I have purchased a bike from a local department store and my kids both won bikes that were pit together by one that had problems with loose nuts and tires improperly installed. For the two bikes we won it was no problem buying a new tire for the ones that were installed wrong and popped due to the tire tube being pinched in the tire. But the loose nut on my bike caused me to have the tire slip and ruin the gear sprocket so I had to get new ones. I didn't think to check that everything was tight on the bike and took off on my merry way after purchasing it. Now if I get a bike I check it out myself and make sure everything is correct and tight.
Another word of caution about any bicycle riding you do and especially any off-roading. Wear a helmet, I know it looks silly but it can be a life saver and can protect that silly head of yours in the very likely event that you fall off your bike. If you go off-roading a helmet is a necessity, knee and elbow pads along with gloves are not a bad idea as well.
