"Big Baby" Glen Davis Lifts Boston Celtics Over Los Angeles Lakers, 96-89 in Final Playoffs

Glen Davis or "Big Baby" Davis as he was nicknamed in his LSU career days, helped the Boston Celtics to a 96-89 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night in the NBA playoffs.

Davis, 6'8" tall and weighing 289 lbs, scored 18 points for the Boston Celtics. His size makes up part of his nickname, but it also puts up a wall against anyone trying to get near him during a game. This was an obvious problem during the fourth quarter for Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers. They learned that you don't push Glen Davis around because he stands his ground. It's not easy moving this "big baby" because of his size.

Davis made seven of the ten shots he attempted and has been a key player coming off the bench and making plays for the Celtics this season. Davis is learning how to establish his ground and hold on to it on the court. Although he has been a low scorer during most of the season, he certainly turned on the fuel for the game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis said after the game that all he could think about was winning the game against the Lakers. The Celtics also defeated the Lakers in the 2008 playoffs. Davis was not in the rotation of players in '08 to play due to his immaturity. He certainly showed his improvements on the court Thursday night and that is why he is now the first player called off the bench when the team is in a bind.

Davis and Nate Robinson, a backup point guard on the team, turned the post-game news conference into a bit of a comedy show. They referred to themselves as "Shrek" and "Donkey" from the Disney movie, "Shrek" in reference to how they played in the game.

Davis had this comment after the game, "You know this is new to me to really be playing in the Finals and being a part of the team." Davis' performance in Thursday night's game was sure to impress both coach Doc Rivers and his teammates.

Davis missed the first 29 games of the Boston Celtics regular season with a fractured thumb, an injury he received back in Baton Rouge, LA while visiting friends in November of 2009. The injury was the result of a scuffle that left "Big Baby" on the bench for quite some time.

Game 5 of the NBA Finals is set for Sunday night with the series tied at 2.

I happened to see the game, and I do not follow sports much. I saw "Big Baby" and said, "Who's that football player playing basketball?" Of course, everyone said "Big Baby." I got a laugh out of the name, and then he drooled...did you see that part? Yowsa.

Its great to see a woman do sports coverage! Loved it. One helpful hint: Its called the NBA Finals not Final Playoffs. Or its more commonly stated as "Game 3" or "Game 4" since it is a series of games. No bigee...
