Big Breasts on Plus Size Women Ad Causes Controversy for Lane Bryant and Networks

Lingerie Ad for Lane Bryant Scares ABC and FOX

Big Breasts on a new Lane Bryant plus-size lingerie ad has caused controversy for both ABC and FOX networks. Lane Bryant is claiming that the networks refused to air the commercial during Dancing with the Stars and American Idol. It should also ne noted that in a hypocritical move FOX network ran a Victoria Secret's commercial, with the typical paper-thin supermodels, without any revisions.

Lane Bryant is claiming that "both ABC and Fox made the decision to define beauty for you," by their refusal to run the commercial. The plus-size retailer went on to state that, "We knew the ads were sexy but they are not salacious. Our new commercials represent the sensuality of the curvy woman who has more to show the world than the typical waif-likes lingerie model."

ABC has totally denied the allegations that Lane Bryant has brought forth. They state that Lane Bryant and the commercial with the plus-size models were treated no differently than any other potential advertiser on the network. FOX network has made no official statement but it has been reported that they did request edits of the ad and Lane Bryant refused.

Ashley Graham, a beautiful Lane Bryant model, has voiced her opinion on the controversy to Entertainment Tonight online where she said, "I think that people aren't used to seeing big beautiful women in lingerie, and it scares some people maybe...they just aren't comfortable having a bigger girl in their lingerie."

According to the Full and Fabulous website the average American woman is 5'4", weighs 140 lbs, and wears a size 14 dress and one-third of all American women wear a size 16 or larger. So Lane Bryant is marketing to a very large audience and many television viewers.

Lane Bryant has come back and said that there ads are no more risqué than Victoria Secret's. The only discernable difference seems to be the size of the models, the size of their breast and the resulting cleavage.

The question remains, was the advertisement pulled because the plus-size models had big breast and thus a lot of cleavage that the networks found inappropriate?
