'Big Brother 13' Season Premiere Date Announced by CBS

CBS revealed the "Big Brother 13" season premiere date Tuesday. The thirteenth season of "Big Brother" is likely to provide fans with even more surprises during the summer episodes, but there hasn't been a lot of information released about what the show will look like. There will definitely be rumors about the new cast in the next few weeks, and such revelations will likely build up buzz before the show finally hits the air.

Entertainment Weekly reports the season premiere will air Thursday, July 7, at 8 p.m. PT/ET. It feels like a late start to the show, especially with how many episodes a typical season takes to complete each summer. Give or take a few episodes, the run is usually around 30 episodes in total, and will likely consist of three per week until the season finale in the fall. The finale will likely take place after some shows have already started their fall 2011 runs.

The reality competition will air Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays this summer, giving fans back-to-back nights during the week. That's an odd decision for CBS, but it apparently gives the network more time to figure out what footage is going to be aired on the Wednesday episodes. If producers stick to the same format as past seasons, it will mean that the (pretend) live shows will be aired Thursday night. It is during those episodes that houseguests are evicted and the Head of Household competitions for each week are held.

For those who are new to the show, "Big Brother" is a reality competition that CBS airs every summer. The premise is pretty simple: 12 or 13 (sometimes more) contestants are put inside a house to live for the summer. Each week, one of the guests is evicted from the house, and at the end of the season, the last person standing takes home a $500,000 prize. There are competitions for power and prizes during the season, all of which play into the voting decisions of the other contestants. Those competitions and the voting take place each week, giving CBS enough footage for three new episodes of the show.

There hasn't been any information leaked about the cast of "Big Brother 13" yet, but the safe assumption is that it will include a group of "pretty" people who will entice viewers to purchase the live feeds online. Before the season premiere airs July 7, there will also be a theme announced for this season, giving fans yet another reason to get excited and debate how entertaining the latest installment will be.
