Big Brother 9: And Now It's Down to the Final Three

Susan Pettrone
Believe it or not, Big Brother 9 is down to the final stretch. With only days to go before the first ever winter Big Brother ends, we find an unlikely trio setting up residence in the somewhat "mod" Big Brother house. And how it came to be is pretty telling.

As those who have live feeds know, in a somewhat chilling incident (literally and figuratively) Ryan and Adam vote Sharon out of Big Brother. After Ryan does some last minute fast-talking to Adam assuring him that should Adam agree to vote out Sharon instead of Sheila, He (Adam) will promise to throw the first HOH competition so Ryan can win. Adam's reasoning, though somewhat convoluted certainly does make sense is, "She (Sheila) can't make it and when she drops, I drop and you win". After Ryan does some heavy thinking (hey, don't hurt yourself bro!) those privy to the live feeds discover that he will in fact vote out Sharon as Adam wishes in order to be the next HOH. Of course the idea to vote out Sharon instead of Sheila could have something to do with the fact that Sharon didn't tumble when Adam asked her to take him to the final two, and in fact commented, "I'll have to talk to Ryan". Now, if that didn't send up some flags and ring a few bells, I don't know what would, and true to form, Adam seems to realize he stuck his foot in his mouth and that Sharon needs to go now when he approaches Ryan literally minutes before the eviction.

True to their word, the two musketeers (Sheila is a necessary third right now and will be history soon if these two have anything to say about it) vote out Sharon and they are on to part one of the HOH competition. A wet and wild competition for head of house is waiting in the wings. This one involving a lot of water, boogie boards and of course endurance. After all is said and done, we discover that Sheila has in fact "fallen" with Adam close behind leaving Ryan as the winner of HOH part 1, just as the two planned. Later we hear Sheila comment that she was "scared of drowning", something I never figured I'd hear from this strong woman. Could it be she is now trying another tactic with the remaining men in the house?

Things seem calm, collected and all worked out with Ryan winning part 1. But is everything as it seems? Does Adam really have Ryan's back and is Ryan really as dense as he appears? And better yet, is Shelia as clueless to the planning and scheming that the two "bros" have been whispering about behind her back? And why did Ryan say HE wanted to be the one to evict Sheila? A decidedly odd statement and one that even caught the attention of scheming Adam. Could Ryan be planning something that will upset the applecart or does he simply want to spend the remaining time in the house with a former penthouse model?

Of course there are two more parts to the HOH competition as any Big Brother addict well knows. Part 2 turns out to be a mental challenge which Adam of course wins hands down as he predicted. Now all the audience can do is wait as the final part of the HOH challenge will be played out live on Wednesday's show. Tension is high but honestly folks, I cannot see Sheila making it to the final two. She is the type of person that no one wants to be next two when the jury throws their barbs and questions. Not only does Shelia have age and wisdom on her side but she has street smarts and charm, something neither Ryan nor Adam have. And don't believe Sheila will leave without trying one last time to work her wiles either. All she has to do is convince one or both of the guys that if He takes Her to the final two, that she will lose and he will win. And with her way with words and convincing manners, this mom may just pull a rabbit out of a hat and end up in the final two.

And you know, if Sheila is smart she will also remind Adam (when she gets him alone), that Ryan has already won $10,000, the trip to the Hollywood Premiere, $5,000 courtesy of "Jenn" and on top of all that a trip to the Bahamas. "why should he also win the $500,000 2nd place prize? " she well may ask. Sad to say, but awakening the "green god of jealousy" within Adam may just work at that. Sheila didn't get as far in life as she has by not thinking fast on her feet and this time, wisdom that comes with age just might prove to win the race, and with a trophy prize of a million dollars, it's certainly worth the try!
