Big Name Companies Offering Work At Home Opportunities

Stephanie Raney
The number of people looking for a work at home job is truly staggering, and the sad fact is that there are a large number of people out there that I like to refer to as "vultures" looking to steer these people in the wrong direction by lying to them, charging them large amounts of money for lists of companies that have no openings, and just out and out taking these unsuspecting people for a ride. Those looking to work at home are usually moms who are forced to stay home due to the high cost of childcare, and are living on a very tight budget. Fortunately, there are several big name companies who are now tapping into the work at home workforce, and creating job opportunities for at home workers.

Uhaul

Uhaul has just recently made the venture into the work at home world, and seems to be thrilled at the response they have gotten. I myself have worked with Uhaul as an at home Emergency Roadside Dispatcher, and fill it is a great opportunity for those looking to work from home. Currently, when you hire on with Uhaul as a work at home agent you start out as an Emergency Road Dispatcher, from there you have the opportunity to move to SuperQue Agent (similar to a switchboard operator), or Customer Service Representative. Uhaul does have a plan to add more work at home opportunities in the future such as Reservation Sales Agent. The work at home positions with Uhaul are hourly paying jobs, so you aren't working on commission, time on the phone, etc.

If you are interested in applying with Uhaul you will need to visit their Employment website at http://www.uhauljobs.com/Default.aspx, in the keywords search box enter the words "E-Hotline Agent", then drop down to the Job Category Section and choose "Customer Service". This search will then take you to a list of cities where this position is available.

Pop-A-Lock

Pop-A-Lock has been hiring work at home Dispatchers for quite a while now, and seems to be a good company to work for. Pop-A-Lock also pays hourly, but currently only hires in certain cities and states.

If you are interested in applying with Pop-A-Lock you can visit their website at http://www.popalock.com/positions.php.

1-800-FLOWERS

1-800-FLOWERS has been hiring work at home agents for quite a while now as well. They hire work at home agents throughout the year but have an increase in call volume at Peak Times throughout the year where they will up hours of currently existing Customer Service Representatives, and hire on new Customer Service Representatives to help during the Peak Season as well. At this time they are only hiring in Arizona, Florida, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Ohio, New York, Texas, Virginia, and Nevada.

If you are interested in applying with 1-800-FLOWERS you can visit their website at http://www.fursthire.com/jobportal/jobportal.swf?CLID=KAZFPNZH&JobID=IXZADWYR. To start the application process you will need to put in your email address, then click "Create" and "Start".

I use to do the uhaul work from home in 2007 and it was very easy. There was a script you had to read to the caller so I never felt uncomfortable plus there was always someone listening in to help you if you had any trouble. I had some problems with my computer so I had to stop doing it. I would love to do it again cause it was so convenient. They were not picky at all not sure if things changed though. All I had to do was pay for the headset which was 40 dollars.

1-800-flowers is a nightmare to work for. You could have a masters degree and they'll still treat you like a moron. Heaven forbid you need to use the bathroom. You'll be reprimanded like a small child. The job itself? You'll be told your job depends on (in not so many words) tricking customers into signing up for long term contracts, etc. Orders are screwed up daily so look out if you're fielding those calls.

Thanks for the tips! I got hired on with Alpine Access before, receiving incoming calls for 1-800 flowers. They require there be NO background noise at all- even a doorbell ringing, etc. They are extremely picky! I had a newborn baby and three other children at the time, so I couldn't do it. Good luck to those that can!
