Big News in Dallas Texas

Can You Guess What it Is?

Sherri Thornhill
Want to know what the big news story is in Dallas today? It isn't the traffic accident that killed a person and it isn't the sad state the school district is in. The top story is not about anything that should really concern anyone.

Have you guessed yet? Maybe you've even heard about it in California, Alabama, New York, its big news, so it must be really important, right? If you watch shows like Entertainment Tonight and Extra, my guess is that it will be on there too, so you know it's something that will impact your life. If you like tabloids and consider them to be your source of news, then maybe this will seem like really important information to you.

What? You think I'm talking about the economy and the people who are out of work? Come on, this is much more important than that! Foreclosures? Nah, those people are just dead beats who don't pay their bills, that story is dead. Health insurance you say? No, now that people who have health insurance aren't screaming at rallies to make sure others don't get it, that story is not top news.

Iraq? Afghanistan? Heck, are those wars still going on? You rarely hear about our brave soldiers anymore. Texas has the highest number of casualties in the war, but we are too busy living our comfortable lives to be bothered by things occurring half-way across the globe. Kinky Friedman is running for Governor of Texas again, that's news worthy. He has as much chance to win as I do, and I'm not running. But he isn't the top story today.

Think people, this is Dallas, Texas, what is the biggest thing in Dallas? I know some of you still have no idea, and others are saying, "The Dallas Cowboys are the biggest thing in Dallas, Sherri!" And to those folks I say..Ding, ding, ding..good answer! Now we have narrowed it down to the Cowboys, and they are always big news in Dallas.

So what's so important about the Cowboys? Nothing really, the team may be good this year, or they may be bad, you never know with them. So what is the top story? Tony Romo, the Cowboys quarterback. I know, I know, you thought after he broke up with Jessica Simpson for the 20th time, you wouldn't have to hear about his love life. Well, I have to hear about it like its important news on real news channels, so now here I am venting to you.

Tony Romo is supposedly dating a local sports anchor, yes it's a girl. Candice Crawford, some southern ex-beauty queen with bleach blonde hair (wow, do I detect a pattern Tony?) is dating Tony Romo. Not impressed? Well she does fit the description of a lot of women in Texas (because there are a lot of pretty women here), but she has something they don't have, a semi-famous brother. I hear he's famous, I've never heard of him but I don't watch teenage themed shows. Chace Crawford of the Gossip Girls.

There ya go, there is your life changing news story of the day. Maybe tomorrow they'll talk about something menial like the number of people who will die on American roads on Labor Day weekend because of drunk drivers. Yes, I'm a little bitter today, forgive me?

I know...it's awful. I write a story about a hit and run I witnessed, I get a couple hundred views over weeks. I write about Kanye "dissing" Taylor Swift? You wouldn't belive how many I got in one day. Sad to say, I'll still cover the real news when possible, but there will be a lot of ones on the stuff that "sells", too!

This was a good read. As a non-Cowboy fan, I hope Tony's new found love serves as a distraction for him this year.

Sounds about right. It's amazing to me that even what we consider reputable news coverage can really get off track.
