Lorain County high school honored

North Ridgeville High School is the Ohio Lottery's School of the Year for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Home of the Rangers, the Lorain County school submitted 39 Academic All-Stars and Teacher of the Month nominations throughout the year to be eligible for the drawing. Each school that nominates a teacher or student from their school is entered into the drawing.

North Ridgeville High will be honored on the Ohio Lottery website and will receive a School of the Year trophy and sponsor and program merchandise.

A special School of the Year assembly-presentation will also be held on Aug. 30 to kick off the 2010-2011 school year in North Ridgeville, with invitations directed to Ohio luminaries including Gov. Ted Strickland, North Ridgeville Mayor Dave Gillock, School Superintendent Dr. Craig Phillips and more.

Ohio Lottery's Partners in Education (PIE) program is responsible for School of the Year, Academic All-Stars and Teachers of the Month. The latter two programs recognize K-12 teachers and students throughout the Buckeye State for their hard work and dedication.

Dream on

Ohio Lottery player Leslie A. Kinsey can buy a lot of Aerosmith CDs now. She is the first big winner of the Ohio Lottery's latest instant game branded for the classic rock band from Boston. She won $50,000 after scratching her Aerosmith ticket, which she purchased at the Uhrichsville Duchess BP station.

Kinsey may not get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame like the Beantown rockers for her win, but the cool $34,500 she scores after taxes has to feel pretty good. For the rest of us, we'll continue to "Dream On," as Aerosmith's biggest hit suggests.

Supercash

Kinsey isn't the only high-profile lottery winner in Northeast Ohio this month. Parma resident Ruth Struminski won $150,000 after scratching off her Ohio Lottery Supercash ticket. She won the top prize for the instant game and will net over $103,000 after taxes. Struminski bought the winning ticket from the True North #348 station on Ridge Road in Parma. True North receives a $1,500 bonus for selling a top prize-winning ticket.

Ohio Lottery is looking for winners of all prize levels to share their stories. Contact the Ohio Lottery at 216-774-5741 or visit www.OhioLottery.com to find out how.

I know teachers deserve to be honored but I have a real problem with Ohio honoring teachers. Teachers already have their educations and they opted to go into teaching. However, children need to be supported and funds should be appropriated to them not teachers who already have degrees. This is so backwards to me. Ohio Lottery get your butt in gear and set up a real educational program that goes beyonds honoring yourselves and patting each other on the back while slipping taxpayers money in to each other's pockets and our children are being left behind, art, sports, music etc. programs have been cut and schools are closing by the dozens. There will be a protest soon!
