The varied cast of characters is what makes Big Shots intriguing to watch. I was wondering in each scene just what trouble was going to spring up for each main male character. The Big Shots female cast is well-rounded as well, showcasing strong women taking their individual stands whether fighting to save their marriages or to stand on whatever principle they have decided to take.
Big Shots' main group of characters are men who are all CEOs of their respective companies, all competitive and successful in business but every single one is set spinning by the woman/women in each of their lives.
Duncan Collinsworth(Dylan McDermott)- the typical sexy, playboyish divorced Big Shot man who still sleeps with his ex and battles to mend a rift with his 19 year old daughter-I liked this character in spite of it all. The premiere of Big Shots finds Duncan struggling to deal with past 'bad behavior' that could very well threaten his career as CEO of Reveal Cosmetics. A sexy, persistent reporter holds the key to revealing Duncan's indiscretion and, at the end of the premiere episode, it sure looks like she will succeed. The recounting of his mistake by Duncan to his companions brought great hilarity to the episode as well as the opportunity for well-placed digs by Duncan's friends for the rest of the show.
James Walker(Michael Vartan)-At first glance, James is Big Shot's 'golden boy' in that he appears happily married and successful. His career takes a nosedive AND an upswing all in this premiere episode of Big Shots. James' marriage reveals secrets that he struggles to cope with. I, for one, am pulling for this Big Shot to have a better day next episode!
Brody Johns(Christopher Titus)-This Big Shot is the one that appears to be completely whipped by his wife. He appears to love her dearly, in spite of the fact that she's clearly very high maintenance. Brody's Big Shot business success as the Senior Vice President of Alpha Crisis Management appears to have no effect on his wife-her biggest concern is that he pulls off her birthday party in grand style.
Karl Mixworthy(Josh Malina)- Big Shots has to have a milder guy in the midst of these testosterone driven CEOs and, at first glance, Karl is this character. Look again, as this one hops about madly to juggle a hot mistress and a loving wife! In trying to break things off with his mistress, Karl finds himself in very hot water when he comes home one day to find said mistress sitting in his living room talking with his wife-not that she revealed any details in the premiere episode of Big Shots, but the situation sure looks dicey for Karl!
I overheard Big Shots being touted as a 'male Desperate Housewives', for which I am glad I did NOT hear before I watched the premiere episode, as I'm not a fan of Desperate Housewives. Big Shots brought some great laughs and curious drama to the screen Thursday night, enough so that I think I'll watch the next episode to see what happens to this comical yet endearing group of Big Shots.
The laughs really were good, Big Shots scored well in the premiere episode in that regard. Here's to hoping they can continue the success. I'll be watching come Thursday night.
