Biggest D-Bags in Sports: Brett Favre

Favre is First in New "D-Bags in Sports" Series

Zac Wassink
The first in a new weekly series. Who better to start with than Brett Favre?

For roughly three and a half years, I have been trying to sneak in profane words and phrases into my Associated Content pieces with no luck whatsoever. Fine AC individuals such as James and Tim, well aware of my lack of professionalism and class, have caught and eliminated each attempt. When I was given the go-ahead to use "D-Bag" in Associated Content pieces, I was filled with glee.

So let's get straight to the point. Is Brett Favre truly the biggest d-bag in all of professional sports? Probably not. After the last few days years, however, the phrases "Brett Favre" and "D-Bag" have become synonymous. There's no need to explain for a third time (check the bottom of the piece for my other Favre pieces) the shift from Hall of Fame bound, Super Bowl Champion Brett Favre to "go away heat," self-serving, egomaniac d-bag Brett Favre. Instead, I'll be answering some questions/comments I've received on previous Brett Favre AC articles and sent to me via Twitter and email.

How does Brett Favre surpass one LeBron James on a sports d-bag list? Thus far, James has only taken his talents to South Beach once. That's one city, one team he has left behind. Besides, anybody paying the smallest amount of attention over the past couple of years realized about 12 months ago that LeBron wasn't returning to Cleveland after the 2010 NBA Playoffs. LeBron James never loved Cleveland or the city's fans. Cleveland fans, including those I know, have been in such denial regarding LeBron that it's almost sad.

Brett Favre's d-bag rating comes from the fact that he, a first ballot Hall of Famer and arguably the greatest quarterback to ever play the position, has managed to alienate three franchises and three cities. Football fans from Green Bay, New York and yes, even Minnesota (can't wait to see what lifelong Vikings fan Scotty has to say at the bottom of this piece) have grown to hate everything about Brett Favre. Has there ever been a Hall of Fame athlete who hasn't committed a crime so widely despised by such a variety of sports fans?

Brett Favre is such a d-bag that he has performed the impossible; thanks to Favre, we now have Minnesota and Green Bay NFL fans agreeing with one another. When you see the Four Horsemen coming from the clouds, you'll know who to blame.

Possibly the biggest reason Brett Favre is first on my sports d-bags list is that, by the time this piece is posted and read, Favre will likely do something to increase his stature as a d-bag. He just can't help himself, like a little kid who can't avoid jumping in the mud puddle or TNA Wrestling booking crappy wrestling. Being a d-bag isn't something Brett Favre does. It's who Brett Favre is and will continue to be, world without end, amen.

So congratulations to you, Brett Favre, for being my first d-bags in sports topic. You won't be the biggest d-bag mentioned in this series, but sir, you'll forever be the first.

And you wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm just sick and tired of Favre. Not just because he is holding my time hostage and my idiot owner is going to give him a pay increase for, that's another discussion. I'm tired of him because it has grown to the point that I don't feel that it is time for training camp until he is seen throwing to high school kids, I shouldn't have become this desensitized already. Lets just put it this way, I would rather see my vikes run the wildcat all game then see Hollywood under center, and not just for the vikes I'm talking NFL, CFL, Arena league, my local flag league, anything. Still pulling for him to some how suffocate on a pair of Wranglers

Ooh. James v. Favre. The one thing Favre has going for him is that hes a veteran with a championship. Still, the Favre fiasco has went on since 2002. James is also young, so it's more understandable with him. The Favre cirucs is just... sad. Favre and the Media? Wow.
