BigHeart Ministries in Dallas, Texas, Reaches Out to Help Others

BigHeart Ministries Earns Big Respect Amongst Homeless Community

It was another awkward and extremely warm November day in Dallas, Texas. From the weather forecast to the issue of homelessness, these are the two instances that are plaguing Dallas County presently. After the close of the National Help the Homeless Week, BigHeart Ministries continued to help others this Sunday (November 18th) with its Annual festivities at Dallas' City Hall on Ervay Street.

Volunteer's of all ages, ranging from 6 - 60 years old, helped out at this special Annual Event. After speaking to David McGree, one of the BigHeart Ministries church member/volunteer, he did inform me that BigHeart helps out the homeless community, with big feasts, at least 4 times per year. Those dates include : the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the day After Christmas, the Sunday before Easter, and July 4th.

Though not a scheduled date for reaching out to the community, BigHeart Ministries will be hosting a very special pre-Christmas feast at City Hall in Dallas on December 1st, 2007.

Minister Don Heart said that, "Being homeless does not mean that you should turn away from the lord, but embrace the lord." Mr. Heart also said to, "Be afraid of the new generation for they will be the one's whom save." "Serve God with a thankful heart, a caring heart," he concluded.

Homelessness in America is a growing epidemic and should not be ignored and overlooked. Sure there will always be homeless person's, but why in Dallas County alone is there over 2,000 people living on the streets and in shelters? Could it be because of the drug and alcohol crisis in Dallas? Could it be due to poor wages and/or lack of job opportunities? Could it be because some of these people lack self motivation to go to work? Any one of these questions could be possible answers, however, what can be the ultimate solution? Perhaps it all depends on the people themselves for the community can only do so much.
