Conservatives Speak in Hollywood

Amanda Keller
The thaw has begun, the conservative creative mindset is coming back to life after being put on ice nearly forty years ago by the liberal hijacking of Hollywood. For those of us too young to remember, Hollywood actually use to be a place that proudly supported America, our troops, the family unit and even God. Films and shows made in this earlier era portrayed all of these aspects of American society as good things, really, I'm not making this up.

With the 60's came a shunning of these values in Hollywood and a belief conservatism was all but dead in the film and entertainment industry. Unless one had risen to the ranks of Box Office Gold, no conservative in their "right" minds let their ideology be known for fear of having all avenues of work shut off to them. Thanks however to Andrew Breitbart, the endangered species known as a Hollywood conservative is beginning to creep out from the shadows and hold heads high... or at least thinking about doing it. Breitbart has started a fantastic website with news, reviews and thoughts surrounding the rebirth of conservative creativity and art taking place in movies and pop culture today. The site is chok full of very clever, entertaining pieces written by a small army of courageous Hollywood conservatives and their compatriots.

The most interesting part I found on the site however is the fact that so many people making comments on the articles and posts state they are unwilling (as of now) to put their real names. I believe their fear is genuine. I had a short stint in Hollywood when I was at USC for filmschool. I remember the unspoken "rule" regarding conservative themes...don't write any. I learned that the hard way and quickly came to the conclusion that Hollywood was not for me. I never was in fear of losing my job because I was still a student but I did feel like a fish out of water in the liberal sea of entertainment. However, for some, the dream of working in Hollywood was big enough to keep them there, conservative but undercover, working in the industry they loved but not able to really say or even write what they thought. Talk about don't ask, don't tell! Hollywood invented that, not the military!

Do check out the site. The writing is witty, smart and positive with the complaining found on many conservative sites refreshingly absent. This site won't transform the Left Coast over night but with so many liberals now flooding Washington, D.C. in the East, the see-saw effect has officially begun. Besides, when Mickey Rourke won the Golden Globes for his comeback in "The Wrestler" I knew, yes, a C-change in Hollywood is on the horizon. Hollywood may be HollyGood once again.

Intersting! Will have to check it out. Actress Sela Ward once said in a TV interview that when she turned to someone in a restaurant and said she wasn't a Democrat, strangely the room grew quiet and everyone stared.
