Bike Review: Trek 4 Series E and the Trek 4 Series D Models

Jones Smith
The 4 Series is a hard-tail design that has been especially designed for riders with intermediate level skills looking for a lightweight, well built mannered and agile bike. The frame on the 4 Series is built of a high performance lightweight aluminum and the guys at Trek refer to it as Alpha Carbon Aluminum frame. The head tube on the frame is externally relieved, which prevents the tube's circular form from expand or getting oval led-out after prolonged use. Along with this there is a hydroformed biaxial down tube - superb strength and at the same time keeping its weight low. The telescopic front suspension comes from the world renowned RST Gila and there are two separate fork assemblies for the model.

Though the frame and the suspension are strongly built, these bikes are more focused on cross country driving and street riding. However, the bike will not fail to deliver if put to test on meek downhill with small jumps. The Shimano M65 disc hubs are solidly built and are capable of holding the wheels in place. The aluminum frame comes with dropouts to further reduce the stress that it is directly subjected to.

The crank-set comes with a heavy duty crank from SR Suntour which is powder coated in black with an "alloy four arm design". However, the triple change ring in the front limits the rider to fully explore the Trek's capability and the HG50 chain tends to snap. The 8-speed shifters from Shimano and the 8-speed cassette box from SRAM works very well on the road, but during downhill jumps they might give some trouble. The Velgo pedals are built of an alloy and provide superior grip. For its purpose, the Trek is the best option for the riders who have just entered in the world of sports cycling. At the same time, the Trek 4 Series also comes across an excellent commuter with its riding comfort and ease of use. The E-model in the Trek 4 Series comes equipped with Tektro-V-Type brakes on both the ends, while the D model is pampered with Shimano M415 mechanical discs. Both these models come fitted with the same set of Shimano EF50 levers.

The Trek 4 Series is something that everyone and anyone who likes to pedal will be able to enjoy to the fullest. And for this purpose Trek 4 Series offers customized frame designs according to the rider's height. These cycles promise to be just as comfy on an off-road terrain as much as it is on city streets. Even the mountain biking abilities of the cycle can not be over-looked, and this one should provide more than what the newbie downhill riders would require.
