Bike Rides for All Levels in New York State

Silly Puss
There are quite a few things to enjoy about living in beautiful New York state; the sunsets are nice, the spring in bloom, and the people are great as well. One of the better but lesser known things about New York is the bike trails; some offer a nice tranquil bike ride full of breathtaking views, while others offer up a bit more of a challenge. Whether you are a bike enthusiast or just someone who wants to take a bike ride once in a while, the Hudson Valley trails are sure to please.

Easy Ride: For the easy going bike riders the West Side Greenway path along the Hudson River located in
Manhattan's west side is perfect. Long stretches of flat riding, except one vertical hill less than a couple hundred feet long. This ride offers beautiful views of the Hudson river, lots of greenery with plenty shaded areas from the trees. The path is just about 13 miles long so it makes a nice worthwhile trip for the easy going rider. Go to http://www.roberts-1.com for more information on how to get there and the route itself.

Moderate Ride: For those people who want just a little bit more of a challenging ride but not an extremely difficult one the Rhinebeck to Tivoli located through northwest Dutchess County, you should get a Dutchess County map for this one since it is going to be a long ride, about 34 miles of mainly paved flat roads with some hills a couple kind of steep ones. Start in Rhinebeck and make your way through until you get to Tivoli, Red Hook. The ride is pleasant with views of the Hudson Valley river as well as lots of farm country to travel through. There is at most times car traffic going by so as always know the rules of the road and make it a safe journey. For more on this specific route visit the above link as well.

Hard Ride: The Great Shawangunk Hill ride is a perfect ride for the rider who requires more of a challenging ride. About 30-32 miles long, starting just west of New Paltz in Ulster County NY. This route has many steep hills, some of the steepest climbs and descents that NY has to offer. There are many parts that traffic from motor vehicles has to be dealt with and because there are many steep hills this can become risky and therefore this ride should only be taken by an experienced bike rider or riders. There are many places to go for a nice bike ride in the state of New York besides those trails that I have listed if you feel the need for more information on where to go then http://www.nycbikemaps
