Bike to Work Day

Bike to Work Day is May 15, 2009. A huge regional event is planned for the Northern Virginia - Washington, DC area. This annual event in the Mid-Atlantic area is produced by the Washington Area Bicyclists Association and major corporate sponsors like Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) of Northern Virginia. Washington Area Bicyclists Association

The Washington Area Bicyclists Association was founded in 1972 by Cary W. Shaw. Although not a bicycling enthusiast, Shaw rode his bike often enough to realize local road conditions were not biker-friendly. His belief that one person could make a big difference in not only travel conditions but lifestyles launched the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA). The organization's mission is to promote cycling, and lobby for improved bike trails and safety conditions. Sign up soon - everyone who registers prior to May 7 will receive a commemorative Bike to Work Day t-shirt. To register follow this link: www.waba.org

Pit Stop Locations

Bike to Work Day 2009 has 26 regional pit stops strategically located throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. If you are looking for a mode of transportation that is cleaner and greener, biking is an environmentally responsible way to start. Log onto the WABA website to check for a pit stop location. Participate in Bike to Work Day on May 15th, and learn how to maximize your bicycle for transportation, exercise, and fun. Pit stop locations: www.waba.org/events/btwd/pitstops.php

All of the pit stops are offering free food and beverages, while many have additional complimentary features like prize raffles, entertainment, bicycle information and tune-ups. Registration for pit stops is required, and it is quick and simply to do on the Internet.
