This organization seems to be just the ticket for the family in my previous article titled, Child Rape Victim Must Face Her Perpetrator Every Day. The family lives in constant fear, which is quite understandable. BACA is an organization that strives to help alleviate the fears that tend to paralyze abused children. The Bikers Against Child Abuse organization has CHAPTERS in most states.
I especially love their mission statement which describes this organization as one that creates a safer environment for abused children. Their desire is to empower abused children so they no longer feel afraid in their world. They support families who suffered through the horrors of abuse and provide them with the opportunity of joining an organization (a card carrying member!) of a group of bikers who are always at the ready to protect them against being abused again. This group works through legal channels to send a clear message that they are prepared to lend physical and emotional support by affiliation and their physical presence. They do not condone violence or physical force, but they do stand ready to be an obstacle to any further abuse of the child.
Once the child's name has been submitted to BACA, the child is given a primary contact person. Once the case has been shown to be legitimate, the entire local chapter of BACA makes a ride to the home of the abused child. Can you imagine a large group of bikers showing up to help protect this little girl? She will then be given a vest with a BACA patch sewn on the back. She will also be given bumper stickers and other gifts on the initial meeting. She will then be given the names of the two closest BACA members to her location and she is free to contact them at any time. These BACA members have undergone extensive background checks as well as training from a licensed mental health worker. They work with the child by providing a safer environment by riding by the child's home on a regular basis and making themselves available any time the child feels afraid or unsafe. They are there to reassure and support the abused child. They never go to the child's house alone or without the knowledge or permission of the parents. They will be available to the child for as long as their help and support are needed. Once the family and the abused child finds their own renewed strength and power, their presence will no longer be needed on a regular basis.
Bikers Against Child Abuse also sponsors social activities for these abused children, such as parties and barbecues.
