If you have a motorcycle you had better think twice before parking it on a sidewalk in the Bay Ridge.

Brooklyn's finest are really starting to crack down on motorcyclists who park on the sidewalk. Parking on the sidewalk has always been illegal though not usually enforced with much ferver.

The ticket is a whopping $115.

Why do so many park on the sidewalk? Cars are less likely to clip a bike when it is on the sidewalk but many bikers claim that the practice is a deterrent for thieves. Motorcycles are less likely to get stolen if they are chained to something.

Local motorcyclists claim they've been parking on the sidewalk for years and until just recently, have never been ticketed. Bay Ridge law enforcement has cracked down because of the sudden increase in motorcycles in the neighborhood along the walkways.

Though it may be safer for the bikes, sidewalk parking can be dangerous to those around. They get in the way of kids trying to make their way home or the elderly walking along the street.

It doesn't look like the law is going to change, so motorcyclists had better find a better place to park.

Oh, and scooters are subject to the ticketing as well.
